Image Capture Nikon D200 EXEC file

Use Image Capture 6.6 to download from my Nikon D200 to my MacPro with Yosemite 10.10.4. For some reason, my camera has decided to create an EXEC file so that when I try and download my photos using Image Capture the EXEC file puts Image Capture into a forever spinning search mode and I’ve got to restart my Mac to get out of it. I successfully download my photos using Photoshop Bridge and then delete the EXEC file, but have no idea where or why or how it’s being created. Just a recent problem...and not all the time. Tried some quick random photos in the house and they opened with IC without a hitch. Even shot random photos over 2 days and they also opened in IC. But just returned from Chicago having taken photos over a 2 week period and once again the mysterious EXEC file was created. Wrote Nikon and naturally they said it was a problem with my software. [Nikon's response: D200 wouldn't create EXEC files, it may be the software you are using to import your pictures is placing that file as an index for the metadata or something, so it's not related to D200 please contact the software company.] Don't see how IC could create an EXEC file since it appears to freeze trying to read that file? Would sincerely appreciate and ideas/suggestions!

Not sure how I get the finder to look at the card. Again, it doesn't happen all the time. Took 4 photos of my current backyard landscaping project and they opened just fine in IC just minutes ago. But the 50-75 photos I took during my recent Chicago trip had the EXEC folder and it was named with a date. I was able to download the photos using Bridge and it apparently names the photos on the card based on when they were taken, creating folders for each day. Can't explain how the EXEC folder is created or why it isn't always created...a real mystery?

Keith,

Over the last 3 days I've shot a number of photos, hopefully being able to recreate my problem with the EXEC folder creation. No Joy...just downloaded using Image Capture w/o a problem, so I'm really scratching my head over this. I have not reformatted the card. For now, it appears my problem isn't one...until it happens again. If/when it does, I'll attempt to get more information on the created EXEC folder.
