Unable to import track name from CD into iTunes

When I try to load a CD into my iTunes account, I am unable to get the names of the tracks imported from Gracenote. I have contacted Gracenote; they have suggested a fix of deleting two files, then restarting computer.

I have OS x Yosemite, and iTunes 12.....the instructions to find the two files do not work with my current set up. Here's the email from Gracenote:

"Thank you for writing to let us know about this issue. Weve been in touch with Apple, and they recommend updating to iTunes version newest version of iTunes 12. Some users have reported this issue after upgrading to iTunes 12.

For a mac: delete those two files (iTunes.plist and gracenote.plist in Finder>Go>Library>User>'user name'>Preferences) reinstall the newest version of iTunes, restart the computer, open iTunes, click Options>Get Track Names."

This is the same information I found going through the support forums, so I know it must be a valid fix; however, when I use the instructions they don't "fit" my computer. In fact, once I get to "go" I start having problems.......there's no way to quickly access "library" and when I get there thru my Macintosh HD icon, there's no "user" item. I don't seem to be able to get there from here. Adding to all of this, how can I reinstall iTunes if Yosemite won't let me uninstall it in the first place??

Obviously, I'm not very comfortable yet with the whole Apple experience.......getting there, but definitely not able enough to just play around, or indiscriminately try different things. Is it possible I can't follow the instructions because of Yosemite, and the instructions are geared towards whatever I had before now?? Am I just missing something very easy??

Final question is: if Gracenote function is not working correctly on my Mac, is there some way to get Apple help without paying for it? I will pay if I have to, but it seems I could gain a lot of insight from this community first! Thanks for reading, if you've gotten this far!!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're trying to resolve an issue with iTunes retrieving song information by pulling specific files from the Library folder on your Mac, but you aren't seeing the Library folder. Try holding the Option key while clicking Go, as described here:

Thank you for responding, Jason. I wanted to let you know what happened. I went to the Genius Bar; tech could not resolve the issue. I showed him your email, as well as Gracenote's email, to no avail. He ended up creating a new user profile for me after determining that the cd tracks DID come up while using a test account. I DID appreciate learning the tip about holding the Option key while clicking Go! I need to become WAY more adept on this system. Thank you again!

Hi. I am having the same problem. I imported a Neil Diamond CD and tracks 1 - 13 failed to retrieve the track names but 14 - 19 did. Also, the artwork did not show up. Other CDs i imported just previously the names and artwork showed up automatically. One album failed and I found the option to look up track names. Now I can't find the option. All of the tracks that came over without information were imported as separate one track albums. I had to use "Get Info" to merge them into one album. I looked at the 2nd link you provided but was unable to find the " Options " button on my screen. In my iTunes 12.2.1 I am have "My Music" selected. Here is an image of the top of my screen.

Read the complete post thoroughly (including the links) about the "option" process. It relates to getting to the User Library folder which is not part of the iTunes window.

I did that and it opened a Finder window and I assumed that I should navigate to Library > iTunes > iTunes Plugins. It was empty. The other choices I had were:

The 9th line of the very first post suggests

For a mac: delete those two files (iTunes.plist and gracenote.plist in Finder>Go>Library>User>'user name'>Preferences)

You have to read the whole topic line by line, word by word.

Under Option+Go>Library I do not see a User item. I do see a Preferences item. Under that I do not see an iTunes.plist but I do see a com.apple.iTunes.plist and a com.apple.Gracenote.plist. Are those the files I want to delete? I assume that if I use the iTunes>Check for Updates it will restore those files. Is that correct?

Go is probably already going to your user library (though there are several other libraries on the computer). Those are the files. They will be regenerated next time you start the iTunes application, but with default settings. No need to check for updates.
