Unable to download Boot Camp 6

I am trying to upgrade to windows 10 on my Macbook mid 2012 retina via boot camp. The instructions say that Boot Camp 6 has the updates and drivers necessary - however, there doesn't seem to a way to upgrade my boot camp. I have tried to Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.4, but it shows that no updates are available on the app store.

When I boot into windows, there are certain drivers that are not working when I try to install the ones provided by my current version of boot camp. Also, it crashes during installation of Boot Camp in windows saying that my version of windows is incompatible.

I went through the same process on my late 2013 mac and had no problems.

So how to I get the Boot Camp 6 version?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

I have also been unable to download boot camp 6. I did get windows 10 first though. When you click to get your upgrade, do you get a message that tells you your computer can't handle the upgrade? If yes, google that message. there is a workaround. I can't remember the message or find the workaround tab I used.

Once you have windows 10, run apple software update. right click on bootcamp (or maybe the menu is in the Tools pulldown) to download only.

I still had trouble at this stage downloading boot camp 6. This link that explains how to get the latest version of boot camp when the mac is running - If you don't see some features of your Mac in Windows - Apple Support
