how do I find an exported photo

I managed to hit the Export button on a photo and have no idea where it went or how to retrieve it! Any clues?

When you export a photo, a save dialog box opens that lets you choose where to save it, just like with most other apps that offer save options. If you can't remember or did not notice what location that was set to & you have not yet tried exporting anything else, start the export process again & after clicking the first "Export" button, note the location the save dialog is set to -- it should be the same as the last export. At that point you can click "Cancel" instead of "Export."

Alternately, if you know the title or file name of the exported photo, use Spotlight to search for it.

Thank you for suggesting various things - I tried your first suggestion, but the Options offered were, first the type of Photo (JPEG), then beneath a ticked box for title, keywords and description which gave no info, then an unticked box for location info (when I ticked it it showed nothing) and lastly File name (which I think I did go through some options, going to Sequential - but no further info shown in the sequential prefix box. Finally the Subfolder Format just showed the Moment name.

I tried Spotlight in the Photos top right hand corner but as the photo was one of similar portraits, there was nothing special to identify it.

Shame there is not a tracer History on where Exports have exported to - masses about Importing - very little about Exporting!

Yes, that's normal. But if you then go ahead & click the "Export" button, the next window you see will be the one that shows you the location where you can choose where the photo will be exported. It also has an "Export" button to complete the process but it also has a "Cancel" button so you don't actually have to export the photo. (That's why I said "after clicking the first 'Export' button.")
