iTunes reset play counts of some songs

This morning I downloaded OS X 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.2.2, but this problem could have been from 12.2.1. I noticed that some songs have had their play counts reset, and it mostly seems to be songs I've purchased on iTunes. However, it's not *every* song I've purchased, and not even every song in every album. It seems to be completely random. Some songs also haven't been reset to 0 plays, but still a low number - e.g. I've listened to Take Me to Church approx 350 times, but the current play count is 9.

Also, some song info that I've edited has been changed back to the iTunes default, e.g. album names. However, there's no correlation between the album title being reset and the play count reset. For example, with the Game of Thrones season 2 soundtrack, five songs have had the album name reset, and five songs have had the play count reset, but these are not the same five songs! And with the Doctor Who series 5 soundtrack, all songs have had their play counts reset, and about half have had the album name reset.

Before I updated to iTunes 12.2.1 I exported my library just to be safe, as I'd read somewhere that some people had had songs randomly deleted. Would importing that library fix the issue? I am slightly terrified of importing it and stuffing my entire library up.

MacBook Air, OS X 10.10.5 (10.10.4), iTunes 12.2.2 (12.2.1).

The file containing all the information you see in the iTunes window is called iTunes Library.itl If this was part of your backup you can take .itl file presently in your iTunes folder and put it in a different place for safekeeping. Replace it with the one from your backup and then start iTunes.

I don't know how this information was changed unless that .itl file was corrupted in the update process (it happens but I haven't seen it done that way before).

The file I backed up was the iTunes Library [date].xml file, which is just what I got when I went File > Library > Export Library. I did find a copy of the iTunes Library.itl file from the same date I exported the library in 'Previous iTunes Libraries', but when changed the current iTunes Library.itl for the backed up copy none of my music even showed up, just iCloud songs. Would iTunes Library.xml work?
