Apple watch tarnished like oxidised silver

User uploaded fileUser uploaded fileI clean my watch daily with a microfibre. Today I have noticed that the back is tarnished with a brown/black mark on the back, much the same as when silver blackens with oxidation. It will not polish out, and I could not find anything on the internet relating to this and so I wondered if any other owners have had a similar problem?

Hi Gaby

The care instructions for Apple Watch band include:

"Clean Apple Watch if it comes in contact with anything that may cause stains, or other damage, such as dirt or sand, makeup, ink, soap, detergent, acids or acidic foods, or comes in contact with liquids other than fresh water, including those that may lead to skin irritation such as: sweat, salt water, soapy water, pool water, perfume, insect repellent, lotions, sunscreen, oil, adhesive remover, hair dye, or solvents."

Avoid using lotions (some moisturising lotions, for example, are acidic) or any other potentially damaging agents in areas of the wrist where the watch is worn and to generally keep the watch and band clean and dry.

Apple also advises that you should not use soaps, cleaning products or abrasive materials on your Apple Watch (including polishing or buffing it with abrasives).

Hello Jonathan,

Yes, I am aware of the care instructions, but thank you. As stated the watch is regularly cleaned, and does not come into contact with anything that could be considered harmful. I have already spoken with support, but was curious if anybody had encountered anything similar as I collect watches and this is a new one for me. It looks like some sort of heat damage as opposed to anything else.

Regards.

Yes, Nor I until this morning...... Unless I turned into the human torch last night in my sleep then it remains a mystery....😝 I sent photos to engineers and to executive relations, so far they said it is perhaps a manufacturing defect with the steel. Although I guess they will find the cause when they get to look at it properly.

My first thought was perhaps a battery defect, but then logic dictates that with the battery being located at top of the watch, it would affect the screen rather than the back case.
