YYou shouldn't have to. Pls describe what exactly you are doing and what is happening with iTunes.
When I start iTunes all I get is the menu bar on top of the screen. From there I must select Window>Minimize, then I click the iTunes icon in the running portion of the Dock to bring it up were I can see it and work with it. If I select anything else from the menu, all the menu options gray out and I have to force quit and start over again. I have been living with this for a long time and hoped that each OS X and iTunes upgrade would have fixed it , but it hasn't.
I found if I make sure iTunes is in full screen mode before I close it, it comes back in full screen mode when I start it again. Work around at best! Disappointed that iTunes doesn't work on my iMac!
