How to get album art when importing albums

I have been "repopulating" my newly created library (old one hacked, lost, etc.- 3 months of music!!!!). Primarily loading CD's and importing. Why do some albums show the album cover artwork, and others don't (majority). Have I missed setting up something somewhere?

Hello there, Diecast Joe.

It sounds like some of your music imported from CDs is missing artwork once imported into iTunes. The following Knowledge Base articles provides a few options for getting the artwork back:

iTunes 12 for Windows: If you don’t see song information

When you insert a CD in your computer’s disc drive (or an external drive connected to your computer), iTunes finds the CD in the Gracenote media database on the Internet and displays the name and other track information for each song. If songs appear as “Track 01,” “Track 02,” and so on, either you aren’t connected to the Internet or iTunes can’t find the CD’s information.

If you’re not connected to the Internet, you can import the songs anyway, and look up the CD information the next time you’re connected.

If your network uses an HTTP proxy, make sure the settings in the Internet Options control panel are correct.

Look up CD information in the Gracenote media database

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
  2. In iTunes, select a song or songs (hold down the Shift key to select multiple adjacent songs, or the Control key to select multiple nonadjacent songs).
  3. Click Options User uploaded file near the top right of the iTunes window, and choose Get Track Names.
  4. Select the entry for the CD.If there's more than one entry, select one (a CD can have more than one entry if more than one person submitted information for the same CD to the Gracenote service); if it doesn't include the correct information, choose Get Track Names again, and choose another entry.

Send CD information to Gracenote

If the Gracenote service has no information about a CD, you can enter your own song information and submit it to Gracenote so other people can use the information. Don’t submit information for custom CDs that you created because others won’t be able to use it.
  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
  2. Click the CD button User uploaded file near the top left of the iTunes window.
  3. Enter the song information.
  4. Click Options User uploaded file near the top right of the window and choose Submit CD Track Names.
  5. Enter the artist and album information and click OK.

Additionally, you can manually add artwork if the GraceNote database is empty:

iTunes 12 for Windows: Add artwork to songs and other items

Music and video you buy from the iTunes Store comes with artwork. You can add your own artwork to songs and other items in your library.

You can add many types of still image files, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and Photoshop. You must convert WAVfiles to another format before you can add artwork to them.
