Apple Watch peeling at the etching on the back

I spoke with a rep Senior Advisor for Aplle Watch today and have a case # for the back of my watch.User uploaded fileUser uploaded file


I have had this unit since June 5th and the band started to peel part so bad that I replaced it with an after market metal band that I purchaced on Amazon. I have an appointment at the new haven location 8/19/15 today . I hope I can be assisted with this matter and I also have apple care . But hope there isnt a claim today because I see a number of Apple watches with the same peeling problem.

Larry, no one is asking for your opinion on my post. This forum is for people to post regarding their issues with the watch.

We paid a price for it and it was touted as quality material even for the aluminium model; however all the photos here say otherwise.

I have been a long time apple product supporter but the material used is below par; not even a month with the apple watch and the wear and tear is showing at the bottom of the watch which is well protected from bumps.

personally i have been to their repair centre. I had an iPhone 5 previously with a bloated battery.

They had to replace me a new set; which they claim to be new but the set did not come in a complete new box.

And gave me the feeling that it was a refurbished set. Thus at the back door there is no knowing if you are getting a complete new replacement set. I have no idea how they are going to repair it too with the serial number and all. But as many others i feel that it's a waste of time running to and fro to their repair shop. Microsoft replaced me a surface tablet but i did not have to go to their service centre. they sent someone to pick up the tablet, bring back to their service centre; review and call you back letting you know what they are going to do. That's good customer service i think. Wish Apple did that.

For my case the service centre did not even want to look at my watch and just refused saying that hardware wear and tear is not covered under apple warranty even if it's less for a month which does not make sense. Cause a watch is not supposed to wear and tear like that within a month unless you physically cause damage. The serial number is underside and is protected from this sort of wear and tear. Unless it's due to sweat; but apple claims the device to be sweat resistant thus it should withstand sweat. In the end i had to keep calling apple support and giving them pressure. Spent more then an hour but they finally agreed to take a look at the device. Imagine if i walked in the service centre and they refuse; that will be really painful as my trip to the service centre is at least 1.5 hours to and fro. I will be going to service centre on Friday; they said they will repair but have no idea how they are going to do that since it's the chassis and the watch will be with them 3-5 working days. Will keep you guys inform

Here is mine... just noticed today. Submitted a service/replacement ticket online.

Never been on anything hard. It gets laid softly on its charger at night and then goes right to my wrist, during the day, then back to the charger...

Definitely shouldn't be occurring. (used a photo editing tool to cover serial...)

Hopefully I'll have a good result from sending it in.

We understand this (and have submitted cases to Apple)...


However, it needs to be made public so other people will know it is not just their watch.

Seeing everyone else's photos made me feel better. Nice to know it isn't something I mysteriously did.


Also, if this happened to MY watch, as much as I baby the thing, it will either be a batch a serial numbers with this issue, or the entire manufacturing as a whole, it will happen to MANY, MANY more! So, hopefully Apple will take the steps to not only replace our watches (with ones that most likely will have the same issue in short time), but also figure out why they're doing this and resolve the issue permanently. Also, so that the next generation Watch wont have this issue at all...


Definitely an issue. Definitely nice to have a "support" group.

So I went in for my appointment and was talking to one of the guys working the floor. I told him what was going on with mine and he looked at his and his was doing the same thing. When it was my turn with the genius bar I told them about their co-worker having the same problem and they looked at mine and looked at his and just went ahead and replaced it. So now I am just waiting to see if it happens again.

So apple called me and told me to go exchange the watch at a  Store. Showing up on time this past Saturday they told me they can not help me because they do not have any refurbished watch's in yet. Once they released that I was mislead from Jason on the phone from apple they opened up a brand new one and exchanged it with me. Shocking to me that the store manager had no knowledge of this current issue with the flaking paint. He insured me that apple has this under control and this would not happen anymore. We shall see.

Just an update. The following day after posting on this thread I contacted Apple Support. I chatted with a rep and even sent them a picture of my watch. The rep agreed to send me a replacement watch once she shared the pictures with an engineer. The replacement is to arrive today. I'm glad Apple is taking this seriously.

Contrary to all your positive experiences, I've only been getting bad service from Apple... I've went to the store five times, and every person I spoke with said that they couldn't help me, and the people I called put me on hold for over half an hour in total. Really frustrated and my watch is getting worse. They said I had to pay over $1000 HKD to get it repaired when I didn't even purposely break it...


However, to those of you who got new watches, I'd suggest getting a watch case from Spigen or something to protect the inscribing!

I think you would have better results if you call apple back and calmly tell them about the paint flaking off the back and that you've seen this problem online and they will tell you to take it to an apple store or exchange it through the mail. Good luck!
