Audio region is locked and I can't move it horizontally!

Hello all! I recorded a podcast by recording a Skype conversation and then dropping it into Garageband. The regions are locked and while I can delete seconds that I don't want, I cannot move the regions together to edit it. Can anyone help me unlock these regions?

That is exactly the locked Region behavior you describe: You cansSplit Regions and delete Regions but not move or resize them.

There is one exception where GarageBand uses a locked Region and that is the audio file that is extracted from a movie file when importing a movie.

You said you imported a recording a Skype recording. Was that a video file, or a movie file containing only audio? In that case that audio file will have a pad lock symbol.

You cannot unlock the file directly, but you can use a trick:

Drag the Track Header of that Track down while holding the option key. This makes a copy of that Track including its Audio Region and Automation data. The "side effect" is tat the copied Region is unlocked.

Hope that helps

Is that Track Locked? It would be strange because you say you can do the other types of edits

Make the Track Lock Button visible on the Track Header (Track ➤ Track Header ➤ Show/Hide Track Lock) and click on it to toggle the Track Lock

Just in case, do you see any padlock symbol on the Region. This is a Logic feature to lock a Region but it is shouldn't be available in GarageBand.

Thank you so much for replying!!!

It appears that the Track lock is unlocked because it is not highlighted green. In the header of each of the audio regions there is a padlock symbol and it looks locked. The track looks unlocked but the audio regions seem locked and clicking on the headers changes nothing. I agree, it is very strange that I can common T and cut things off of the audio region but I cannot move the regions together to cover the space that I just deleted. Is that clear? Does that help?
