Is iCloud compatible with Outlook 2016?

I've installed Windows 10 and Office 2016. I also installed iCloud and every time I try to access it and synch with my Outlook 2016, a window pops up and says top Repair iCloud installation, then Restart. I've done this twice but still no go.

Is Outlook 2016 too new??? Or is it Windows 10???

I don't have Pro, just Home Premium, but this should not make a difference, as I see.

During update iCloud on my second PC with Win 10/64 I was not able to setup contacts, calendar and task with Outlook, just Mail.

I had to logoff from iCloud and logon again, therafter I was able to configure all Outlook settings. Maybe, this helps, too?

iCloud 5.1 has solved the problem for me!

As the first post indicated, I had the problem where I’d get a windows pop-up that said to Repair iCloud installation, then Restart.

I downloaded the update. Restarted my machine. Upon restarting, iCloud opened without an error message. I checked the box for Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks which is what I’ve been wanting to sync with Outlook. The synchronization process began. I opened Outlook and all my data for Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks were synchronized with iCloud again. I did have to adjust my view in Outlook on a few things. I’ve been able to input new information and see it immediately on the iCloud.

For the record, my original post was Oct 27, 2015 11:29 AM. I’m running Windows 10 on a 5-year-old laptop (which was previously running Windows 7) and had upgraded my Outlook 2013 to Office 365.

I did not try any of the “work arounds” proposed in this thread. There was too much to wrap my arms around so I VERY painfully waited.

Meanwhile, I wonder…

Why did this error/problem happen? Could it have been prevented?

Why did it take Apple this long to resolve?

What changes will Apple make in the future to ensure this doesn’t happen again?

It’s hard to express how much trouble not having iCloud working with Outlook has caused me. I bought an iPhone because it synced with my Outlook. I had/have the expectation that I will receive prompt and continued support. Apple failed me in ways that has cost me lost productivity that I’ll never get back.

Although I’m relieved to have this fixed, Apple’s response to this matter will cause me to move forward with skepticism about Apple’s ingenuity, its commitment to customers, and their products.

An interesting post. Back when I was trying to choose a smart-phone to commit to, I chose a Galaxy with an android OS. I found that I could not link Outlook to the Google world without paying for it, and even then it was a chancy relationship. Apple, on the other hand, had a remarkably useful link. So I returned the Galaxy and committed to an iPhone. Why not a Windows-based phone? Because my spouse had an iPhone and we needed to share calendars so that we could plan family activities around our mutual schedule. There was no easy way to share calendars from her iCalendar to my Outlook.

Now, things are different. Apple has become less communicative than ever. Single users have no relevancy in Apple's worldview. I'm afraid that this recent disregard for we non-Apple computer users may be a sign of things to come. If so, my next new phone might be a Windows based phone -- simply because Apple has made it clear that we don't really exist as far as they are concerned.

I hope I am wrong.

I saw the errors everyone else saw when I went from Office 2013 to 2016 (Office 365) when I had iCloud 5.0 installed.

I downgraded to Office 2013 when I found out that the problem was iCloud 5.0. All was well (except that I couldn't upgrade to 2016) until last week when the annoying yellow reminder bar appeared in Office apps suggesting I upgrade to 2016. I called Apple and they promised a fix this month as I reported before.

Now that iCloud 5.1 has been released and I installed it I went ahead and allowed Office 365 to upgrade to Office 2016. I just tested contact and calendar sync in both directions from my iPhone to Outlook 2016 on my Windows 10 PC and it worked flawlessly.

Great to hear you had the courage to upgrade and it works. I upgraded then had to downgrade before. So basically you are moving both from the PC and the iPhone back and forth with contacts and calendar entries via iCloud as the mediator. Correct?

I am running Windows 7 and also have been using the CodeTwo app to facilitate synchs. I wonder if this app is no longer necessary (I hope). I much preferred Outlook 2016 to 2013 (much faster) and Word is superior.

Anyone using CodeTwo?

I am still having problems unfortunately, and would appreciate any ideas. I'm running Outlook 2016 (via Office 365) under Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I've got a Gmail and a Hotmail account configured in Outlook. I've installed the updated iCloud and it appears to work and configure OK, but in Outlook I can't see the iCloud calendar under the Calendar tab. There is a cached copy of my iCloud calendar under 'My Calendars' but there is no separate iCloud stub. The cached version doesn't sync. I've tried signing in and out of iCloud, and even uninstalling and reinstalling Office and deleting/re-creating the Outlook profile. None of this has worked. Even more strange is that in my other login on the same computer, where I have a work Exchange account in Outlook, it all works OK (when I was running Outlook 2007 iCloud worked perfectly with both logins with identical configuration). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Getting it to work may require repairing either Office and or ICloud. But I can confirm that it has worked for me (in the end). What I did...

1. Upgraded to ICloud 5.1

2. Upgraded to Office 2016

3. Sign Out of ICloud via icloud desktop (confirm the warnings, etc.)

4. Repaired icloud via windows control panel (just for giggles)

5. Signed into ICloud

Do the windows restarts that is required along the way.

Well, I downloaded the new version, installed it, and VIOLA - I'm up and syncing with Outlook (2016) again ! Its all working fine - contacts and calendars merrily syncing backward and forwards. Good stuff Apple - just a real pitty it took so long!

Maybe this was a bit of a wake up call to Apple - Its not just about creating shiney new hardware they've got to make sure the software works with it AND ASSOCIATED programs! And to up their game as much as customer service is concerned.

Id like to say thanks to the 65,000 plus people whove been contributing to this thread and making Apple aware via direct feedback. Power to the People!

I'm done (for now).

Cheers to all.

One should point out that there are still some outstanding Outlook / iCloud issues.

For users with tablets or touch screens, there is the problem "Touch scrolling in Outlook 2013 email messages fails to operate":

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/touc h-scrolling-in-outlook-2013-email-messag…

There is the problem of iCloud events being kept separate from other calendar events, such that if you receive a email with a meeting proposal or time change, its calendar display is only of the empty non-iCloud calendar.

And there is the problem of all events moved to iCloud labeled as "Copy of". It is annoying to have to delete "Copy of" on each event. More details at: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/calendar/copy-is-prefixed-meeting-subject/

As a result of my horrendous Microsoft support episode a few days ago, some senior support people contacted me and I mentioned these remaining issues and hopefully we can get some progress on these too.

In Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins, then at the bottom of the next window, make sure 'COM Add-ins' is selected in the box where it says 'Manage', and click 'Go'. You'll then see a list of the Outlook add-ins that are installed, and there is a check box against each of them which needs to be checked to enable that add-in. You'll see one labelled 'iCloud Outlook Add-in.' In my case that box wasn't checked, and checking it fixed the problem. No idea if that's your problem, but worth looking.
