Is iCloud compatible with Outlook 2016?

I've installed Windows 10 and Office 2016. I also installed iCloud and every time I try to access it and synch with my Outlook 2016, a window pops up and says top Repair iCloud installation, then Restart. I've done this twice but still no go.

Is Outlook 2016 too new??? Or is it Windows 10???

Werdman,

I think you have the key to a solution for some of the users who had a previous Office 2013. My sister and I compared our two setups against the exclusion of iCloud 4 or 5 with Office 365 /2015 or 2016 and Windows 10. The Windows 10 has less to do with this since we were both running it before I had my meltdown with Office 365's install. The difference: Her Office is Office 2013 (365) 32 bit on a 64 bit machine. O had to completely uninstall Office 2013 even all registry entries to get the Office 365 to run and install. What happened: My Office is the conflicting element of the three: Office 365, iCloud and Windows 10. She and I have both run Windows 10 since the spring with our Office 2013. She got her Office 365 to install from the 'click to run' install at Microsoft on her Windows 10 PC. There is either a difference in the 32 and 64 bit version of Office that makes it impossible for Office 365 to UPGRADE and Office 2013 or a registry entry in some installs of Office 2013 that prevented the UPGRADE.

I will post back when i can do an experiment with uninstalling Office 365 /2016 and iCloud 5. Then reinstall Office 2013 32 bit. Once stable with all updates, I will install iCloud 4 or 5. If this works we can take the statement about what's iCloud is not compatible literally. It is Windows 10 AND Office 365 (2015 - 6 and 64 bit). If anyone else has done this and found it to work with the REFRESH Add-in to Outlook 2013 (365) working, then we have something better than the weird workaround using Outlook.COM and the Outlook app for iOS which required that you also work around your POP3 accounts because that app for iOS by Microsoft does NOT work with POP3 accounts. If someone has had success with this option, please post and let us know. Some of us are being tortured by the lost hours working on this to the exclusion of the real work we have our devices and software for. It sure is not to be testing grounds for big corp's who promise business solutions, take our money and deliver us new problems to solve.

I may have more to say about that app later. Right now, it was a frustrating and awkward work around that is still not 100% for syncing Mail, Contacts and Calendars across several accounts of different types. I feel there is a lack of real world experience in the planning and exclusion of new and upgrade software and app.

Just spend 1 hour talking to Apple Support. Made it to a senior adviser who at least listened. He recommended, that we all goto

and submit our concerns.

Here is what i just wrote:

When will iCloud for Windows support Outlook 2016? The number of annoyed users is growing every day by 1.000 or more.

It can't be that hard to communicate, that the problem is known and addressed.

Getting iCloud for Windows 5.0 out recently w/o solving the minor Outlook 2016 compatibility issue is a shame and a major disconnect of the worlds largest software ecosystems.

Thanks for the feedback link. Added my own submission.

"After configuring a new Win10 64-bit laptop, and being automatically updated to Office 2016 (via my subscription), I learned iCloud for Windows v5 is not current with this level of MS Office, specifically Outlook. iCloud for Windows issues a misleading message about requiring repair. We all now realize that's a waste of time. Apple should work with MS while their code is in beta, so when they GA, you GA at the same time. Having a number of Apple devices does not mean I have abandoned Windows as my primary computing hub."

OK...here is my story...sorry for the wall of text but the progression of events may be helpful...my computer originally had Windows 8.1x64 installed, along with Office Pro 2010x32. This configuration worked with iCloud 4.1 for Windows. All Outlook sync was OK. I upgraded my computer to Windows 10x64 still running Office Pro 2010x32 and iCloud for Windows 4.1...still all OK with iCloud 4.1 and Outlook sync. Next I installed Office 365 (2013)x64 and so had both versions of Office, a local Office (2010)x32 and the new Office 365(2013)x64 side-by-side on my machine. iCloud for Windows 4.1 still working OK with Outlook. Next I uninstalled the local copy of Office Pro(2010)x32. All still OK with Outlook sync and iCloud 4.1. Next I upgraded my Office 2013x64 to Office 2016x64...all still working OK with iCloud 4.1. So my last working configuration was: Windows 10x64, Office365(2016)x64 and iCloud for Windows 4.1. Now the problems begin...I got a notification from Apple Software Updater of a new version of iCloud for Windows, v5.0 NOWHERE in the notice did it state that it did not support Outlook 2016. So I installed the update...when complete it asked for a reboot...after the reboot I now get the infamous "Please run repair to use iCloud with Outlook. That's all she wrote...ran repair rebooted, no luck. I tired to downgrade iCloud to 4.1...still doesn't work...ran a repair of Office 365 same result...just say to repair each time...iCloud doesn't work with Outlook 2016. So I'm stuck with a broken installation of iCloud, as far as Outlook sync goes. When I open Outlook 2016, I can see the iCloud folder, but if I try to open it, it says: "Cannot open folders, cannot open information store."

I opened a support ticket with Apple...the senior tech did say that iCloud for Windows doesn't support Outlook 2016...my first indication of the non-support He documented my case and said that Apple will issue a fix...he, of course, did not have any idea when that might happen...in the meantime I will not downgrade to Office 2013 so as I said, I'm stuck with a broken and useless ICloud Outlook sync. Keep submitting support tickets, and feedback comments...This is probably the only way we'll ever get Apple to move on this issue. Comments here are great to share our experiences, but will probably not do a whole lot to get the issue resolved. Spreading it around to the tech pubs probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. (I did also inform the senior Apple tech that there were many posts about the issue here in the community forums and to look at them)...GL to all and hope we get a fix soon.

Done; posted to Apple Feedback about iCloud. I put my 2 cents worth in the Feedback. I am going to let this rest a few days and then try to uninstall Office 365 - 2016 and reinstall Office 2013, then iCloud again, I must get some work done and salvage my critcal calendar, contacts and notes before it is impossible to get my data right again as the use of a thing called Outlook app for Windows has need the use of my files convoluted and awkward.

Thanks soooooo much! Worked beautifully for me. I am still on Windows 7 due to incompatibility of 10 w/some astronomy programs but had just updated to Outlook2016 via Office365. Lost everything but setting compatibility to Windows 7 and run as admin for good measure solved this. The next time I opened Outlook, everything was back. I've added appointments both in my iPhone and Outlook 2016 and both synced with the other device.

Yea!
