Photos on Yosemite stopped syncing with iCloud photos

Hi, on June 15th photos taken with my iPhone stopped appearing in Photos running on my Mac Mini Yosemite 10.10.5. All the settings on the iPhone and Photos on the mac look fine - it simply stopped working. Anyone have a clue how to get it to start syncing again? --thanks

Hello Jimmy,

It also happened to me the first times Photos was launched... The issue is related to a problem on one of your devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc) one of your devices failed to upload some content.

Here the solution (depending of the size of your library it may take a while).

1. Go to iCloud.com, then Photos and check if you see all your photos there. If not, import them on your computer and add them here. You need to have iCloud ready with all your photos.

2. When it's done, on all your devices turn off photo library, and delete any content you may have left. On the Mac delete also the Photos library file.

3. When it's done, reactivate Photos on all your devices. It will download the content from iCloud. And may take a while depending of the size and your internet speed.

4. Test it, for example take a photo on your iPhone, wait to see if it appears on your Mac. Edit some photos on your Mac and see if the changes appear on your iPhone.

I hope it will help you to solve the issue.

Do you have the iCloud Photo Library enabled? If not then you are relying on the My Photo Stream to sync the photos from your iPhone to your library, right?

If you don't have the iCloud Photo Library enabled try this fix developed by jmush1:

1 - close Photos.

2 - launch Activity Monitor and search for "Photos Agent".

3 - quit the Photos Agent process.

User uploaded file

4 - reboot.

5 - launch Photos and check you My Photo Stream.

Thanks for responding. I gave it a try first as it was the easiest of the two, but it didn't work, so I'll be trying the first response I received. Boy, I'm not real impressed with Yosemite. I also can't keep my TimeCapsule synced with it for more than a couple of days. My very old lap top from 2006 on Snow Leopard (which is still alive and kicking) worked great with my TimeCapsule - oh well, that well be a new thread... Apple is starting to remind me of Windows: buggy and crazy hoops to jump through -- "it just [doesn't] works" any more 8-( Thanks again!

Definitely some serious bugs. I may have to endure until next iOS release. I screwed up my album organization trying the first suggestion. Now I have 4500+ photos virtually scattered in iCloud and hundreds more to upload.

Interesting post

You claim bugs but you do not even know what software you have - there is no IOS for a Mac - only OS X - and you are blaming Apple because a fellow user gave advice that did not do what you wanted (a hint for the future - use the advice from the 130,000 point user rather than the advice from an 80 point user)

Photos, of course, has some bugs as does every single piece of software ever created - but it is more bug free than any first release of a major program I have seen - and it dod not "screw up" you organization

Hi loïcfernandezcastrillon and thank you for the detailed instructions. I finally got around to following them and did all the steps, but alas, pics taken on my iPhone still do not upload to iCloud anymore... Really strange as it all use to work as of June. Does anyone have any ideas why this stopped working or any suggestions of things to try? Thanks!

Re: photostream not working on my mac

I do not know if anyone ever runs into this issue anymore, but the Apple Engineers helped me fix this recently.

They had me do the following:

Turn off Photo Stream in your user account:

Quit iPhoto

Goto System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck Photo Stream.

Close System Preferences

Then deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/ directory.

Open Terminal and type in cd Library

then type open . (open space period)

navigate to Application Support and delete the iLifeAssetManagement folder.

quit terminal

Then turn photo stream back on in their photo library.

open iPhoto and click on Photo stream in the left column.

enable photo stream.

It will take some time to download the cached photos but this resolved my problem of having 0 display and no photos in the "My Photo Stream" area when any of my other devices showed new photo stream photos without any problems.

Re: Shared albums won't show up on new Photos on Mac

in response to mwbaker210

Guys,

If you are still facing this issue after rebuilding, try this:

1. Close Photos

2. Go to System Preferences, iCloud, Photos and disable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing”

3. Go to folder /Users/YourUser/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Applicati on Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd/services

4. Delete com.apple.photo.icloud.myphotostream and com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams folders

5. Enable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing” again.

6. Start Photos. After a while, the shared photos will start coming.

Re: Photostream not updating on Mac Photos

Helpful

I had this same issue. I fixed this by:

Closing Photos.

Opening Activity Monitor.

Killing the process titled "Photos Agent"

I opened up Photos again, and my Photo Stream immediately updated.

thanks Old Toad for all the great methods, but I think I should close this thread as I have opened a new one with a proper title -- you see, when I first posted my problem, I thought it was a Photos issue on my MacMini, but there real problem, and bigger problem, is that pics taken with my iPhone 5s OS9 now, will not sync with "iCloud" Photos, so naturally, that is why I'm not seeing them in Photos on the Mac. Therefore, I have posted a new problem titled "Pics taken on iPhone are not syncing to iCloud" (something like that). But I appreciate you taking the time to post those solutions for Photos and iPhoto, so thanks for that and I will refer to them if after I get "iCloud" to sync with my iPhone pics, and they're still not showing up in Photos app on the Mac 😉 Cheers!
