How do I remove tradeadexchange virus from iPad mini?

My iPad mini is infected with tradeadexchange virus. This virus forcibly redirects every url that I type in browser or search results.

It is not a virus.

Double tap the Home button, then swipe upwards on the Safari preview.

Go to Settings - Safari - Clear History.

Restart Safari.

Please explain "cleaning" in details. Did they reload the router firmware?

Are your iPad Mini devices jailbroken? I'm asking this because it's possible that the malware is in one of the apps in your jailbroken device (if in fact it is jailbroken). Have you tried changing your iPad Mini DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 (Google public DNS)? Have you tried resetting your Mini to factory?

By the way, there's an easy way to test if the source of the problem is your iPad or the router. Take the iPad to a friend/family house. Access the internet thru their wireless router. Do exactly the same thing you do when you're home. If there's no problem... well, you can be sure the problem is not in the iPad.

Dear ShagCA

- My iPads are not jail broken ( I even have no idea how people do it). I bought iPads from official Apple Store and have not installed any applications from anywhere accept Apple App Store

- DNS settings I have not touched - I do not know what it is

-I reset settings to factory - didn't helped

- when problem was already there ( from Jan 1. 2016), new IOS 9.2.1 came up in updates and I have installed this new IOS simultaneously on both my iPads, but the redirect problem still there

- regarding router reloading - I can not give the details as my husband gave it to the IT service twice ( second time they have changed wifi name and password)

- regarding checking iPad in another wifi environment - IT service checked on their wifi and iPad seemed to behave normally. I plan to check myself when weather gets better ( I am staying at home with small children)

I can say with absolute certainty your iPad devices are not the source of the problem. You want to look into your router. That's where the redirection is taking place. Unfortunately no one knows what the IT service has done in addition to changing names and password.

Follow this article: http://osxdaily.com/2014/08/08/change-dns-settings-ios/

After changing DNS IP to Google public DNS IP addresses, retest Safari by browsing different sites.

You don't have to. It's already been tested by the IT service on their wireless network. Problem disappears when iPad is in their network. You can safely draw conclusion that your iPad isn't the problem.

Following is what I tried::

> Tried updating the router's firmware. No new updates.

> Hard reset the router 30-30-30

> Changed wifi ssid and password, also router password.

> Ran mcafee antivirus on my ipad

> Reset my ipad

> Tried to upload an alternate firmware on netgear wgr614v10 router. It was not successful. Didn't allow me to do so. Message said failure.

Are you running version 1.0.2.60? http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24370

I would download the same firmware version and reinstall it.

Did you disconnect your internet connection while resetting and reconfiguring the router?

> Ran mcafee antivirus on my ipad

I didn't know there is an antivirus/antimalware for iOS devices. If there is one, it's not needed.

Take a look at http://www.sectechno.com/backdoor-found-in-linksys-and-netgear/ Your router may be affected. To isolate the source of the problem, try accessing the internet via a different WiFi connection (eg: public WiFi) or via cellular network if your iPad is the cellular model. If your problem goes away, you can be sure your router is the culprit. Btw, is your iPad jailbroken?

Recently got infected with this tradeadexchange.com advt virus. All my devices (iPad, 2 android phones) using the wifi connection were getting auto routed to random advt urL. So this can't be device specific problem, must be something common like router or modem. Tried clearing cache, history, etc. will work temporarily only, won't resolve.

Read that it's got to do with router/modem. Opened the respective devices setup url like 192.168.1.1. Look at the Dns servers specified in the settings (under advanced). on my modem device, both primary and secondary dns server were specified as something like 33.*.*.* which lookup showed as UK servers. Change to auto select and make sure in the status page same is updated. For wifi router do the same changes, some will allow to manulily specify if yes you may use google public dns server like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Exact steps may differ by device. Reboot the devices to update. Also clean up the browser cache, reset browser settings to mare sure no trace are left.

also recommend to change the default admin password so that settings can't be changed easily. Not sure how devices got infected but it's possible someone can use default admin username and password.

hope it works, it's working so far for me, no more irritating re-routing.

Most routers allow remote administration. It's recommended to disable that feature. I see no reason to change my router settings when I'm away from home so I disable mine. I also disable router admin thru wireless connection to prevent anyone nearby from changing my device. I can only get to the router admin through wired connection.

Hi,

I also have the tradeadexchange redirection problem. I am having the problem both on Wi-Fi and 3G.

I believe the problem is device specific because I am having the problem with the 2 iPads at home but my iPhone 5s is working fine within the same wi-fi network. not of them are jailbroken.

I did not change the router DNS settings since the problems occurs also on 3G.

Still looking for a solution...

Thanks in advance.
