Sounds like a power connection problem, and you are slightly touching the Time Machine. Make sure the power cord is securely plugged in to an electrical outlet and the Time Capsule. If both ends are securely plugged in, and you are not touching it, take it to an Apple Store. It could be a problem with the cord or the Time Machine Power supply.

Have a nice day.

How old is this TC and what model?

Hand over the TC.. do you actually touch it.. press down on it? I am not understanding what you mean by hand over.. (unless you have high aura and sparks begin to jump from your hand to the TC.. eg you have nylon carpets and leather sole shoes so by the time you walk across to the TC you have a static charge of several thousand volts.. in the old days it was possible to kill electronics this way).

Cables and especially cables like ethernet use very fine spring steel wires in slots.. and it is possible with metal coverings around the ports for things to short out.. especially if you use metal ended shielded cat cables.

Give it a close inspection with a magnifying glass to make sure every contact is correct.

No luck well it is simply faulty and if in warranty (or under applecare) return it for testing / replacement.
