On a new sheet type "3.8" in B2, "3.7" in C2 and "=B2-C2" in D2. Does everyone get ".099999" instead of ".1"?

Then use Excel, stop wasting your time on this childish exercise when Excel does what you want it to (in your imagination at least)
if someones car leaks because of this error they are designing incorrectly.
who can machine any metal part to + or - 0.000000000000001 inches or feet or meter?
the diameter of human hair ranges from 17 to 181 µm
0.000000000000001 meters = 1.0 × 10-9 micrometers
that means that a 17um diameter hair is 1,700,000,000 times bigger. This simply falls out of the realm of reasonableness.
I have been an electrical engineer for 22 years and have never, once, needed this kind of precision.
Wayne, I fully expect my car to built to a tolerance of +/- 1 angstrom
Hi jr,
Nothing in life is exact. Least of all, the conversion of 'human' numbers (decimal) to binary and back again to decimal .

As the Australian Bushranger Ned Kelly said: "Such is life."

The problems with the math engine are not being fixed because its easier to shrug your shoulders rather than go back over the issue and fix it.
and to have irregular results is even worse. Play around with multiple number
This is just one of the ones I did.
So the columns on the left were created using previous bucket +.1
On the Right it was a copy and paste values only
Notice the variation on the answer shown as floating -
