GPS map does not show in "info" iPhoto 9.4.3

Have iphone 6+ and "Sony 77 alpha camera" with GPs tagging. Always automatically download all photos from Sony camera into iPhoto (for years) - no problems. Recently when you select "info" in iPhotos to see if gps has selected correct location and satellite map, only see "white" small screen and a small part of the "drop pin". Only recent addition to anything is iWatch.

Problem is the same when downloading photos from iPhone.

Any ideas please ?

Versions of iPhoto earlier than 9.5 relied on Google maps for their location features. Apple's contract with Google expired a couple of months ago and was not renewed.

iPhoto 9.5 and later use Apple's Maps for the location. Therefore you'll need to upgrade to Yosemite and download iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store in order to get locations to work again. Since you do have a version of iPhoto 9.x you 'll be able to get 9.6.1 by following the directions posted by Tererence Devlin in this post:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If iPhoto 9.6.1 is there, close the App Store, drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash and then go back to the App Store.

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
