Only when the MBP requires more than 4 GB RAM, then it will help. If you are using applications that will use a lot of RAM, then by all means install addition RAM. You have mentioned several applications that fall into that category. I have installed the maximum RAM in all of my MBPs for the simple reason, if I need it, it is there.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
If you want to exploit the maximum performance capability for your MBP install A SSD. That of course is dependent upon the size of the bank account. I recommend OWC and Crucial SSDs. Avoid Samsung at this time. There have been too many problems listed on these forums regarding Mac compatibility.
