How do I connect my new phone to my laptop?

I have a 2014 MacBook Air and i had connected my old phone (an iPhone 4s) to the messages and phone on the computer. I recently just got an iPhone 6 and its not syncing to my laptop. Do you have any idea as to how I could sync my new phone up with my laptop?
