PagePro 1350W Mac compatible Driver

Hi folks,

I have a mixed setup at home, a half PC, half Mac network, but I find myself increasingly leaning more and more toward the Mac side. The main reason that stops me from discarding my old PC altogether is the fact that I cannot find a Mac compatible driver for my printer, a Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W. Does anybody know a way around this?

This appears to be a windows only printer that utilizes the GDI subsystem in Windows. There may be a solution for advanced Mac OS X users. See the page for the Minolta PagePro 1350W at linuxprinting.org. To use this option, the user will have to compile and install the source code for the driver/filter. You would also have to install the PPD found on that page along with Foomatic-RIP and ESP Ghostscript.

Best of luck.

See if this package works. You will need to also install Foomatic-RIP and ESP Ghostscript I mentioned in the first reply. Those also are available in Mac OS X installer format.

The min12xxw-0.0.9.pkg is what it is. It comes with no documentation whatsoever. I just did a quick compile and made the installer package. Please let me know if it works. If it does work, I may look into adding the other printers that this package supports along with some documentation.

You will need to add a printer queue. To do this:
1. Open Printer Setup Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
2. Hold down the Option (alt) key and click the Add icon at the top of the window. A sheet will drop down.
3. Use the top pop-up menu to select "Advanced".
4. Once Advanced is selected, use the pop up menu just below that to find and select your printer. It should be listed at the bottom of the list.
5. Once you have selected the printer, we need to assign a PPD or driver for the printer. There is a pop up menu at the bottom of the sheet. Use that to select Minolta. You should then be presented with a list of all the Minolta printers avaialable. Yours should be listed as "Minolta PgePro 1350 Foomatic/min12xxw (recommended)".
6. Once you have selected the driver, click the Add button at the bottom right of the sheet.

You should now have a new printer queue added. You can try to print a document. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for all your help.

I followed the steps you recommended, but, although the System Profiler recognizes the printer, the Printer Setup Utility does not. Also, the driver appears just like you say, but dimmed, so I cannot select it.

I tried selecting USB Printer, but then it tells me "driver not installed," and the PagePro also appears dimmed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot again. Pity this crappy system does not allow me to give you another well-deserved "Helpful" star.

This will sometimes happen due to the differences in how the System Profiler and the printing system look for devices. Perhaps the easiest way to try and solve this is to make sure that your printer is connected to your computer and turned on. Restart your computer and try adding the printer again. The printer should now appear at the bottom of the "Device" pop up menu after you select "Advanced".

If that doesn't work, you can try an alternate commuinications software for printing called usbtb. One of the nice things about this software is that it will lead you through setting up your printer. All you need to do is follow the prompts during the installation.

I tried the first step you recommended, but it didn´t
work.

How are you attaching the printer to the computer? I have been assuming that you have been using the USB port as you said it was detected in the System Profiler.

Assuming a USB connection, let's try a different tactic. Make sure that the printer is attached to the computer and turned on when the computer is booted up. Now open the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities). Copy and paste the following into a Terminal window. After you paste the command, hit the Enter or Return key.

<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #000; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb</pre>

Copy and paste the results in a response to this message.

That is the type of response I was hoping for. The printing system is recognizing the printer. You may not have recognized it in the Device list when you tried to add it before. It most likely was listed as "PP1350W". That doesn't exactly shout "Pick Me".

We should be able to add an appropriate printer queue without going through the Printer Setup Utility or using the usbtb software. You will need to again open the Terminal. Copy and paste the following command and hit the Return or Enter key. NOTE: This must be all on one line so please excuse the lateral scroll bar.
<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #000; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">lpadmin -p Minolta PagePro1350 -E -v usb://KONICA%20MINOLTA/PP1350W?serial=0 -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Minolta-PagePro_1350W-min12x xw.ppd.gz</pre>
After you have entered the command, you should find a printer added and ready to try printing. The printer name will be Minolta PagePro1350.

We'll try it without the scroll bar:

lpadmin -p MinoltaPagePro_1350 -E -v usb://KONICA%20MINOLTA/PP1350W?serial=0 -P /Library/Printers/ PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Minolta-PagePro1350W-min12xxw.ppd.gz

I hope that comes out as one long line. Here it is letting the browser wrap lines as needs be.

lpadmin -p Minolta PagePro1350 -E -v usb://KONICA%20MINOLTA/PP1350W?serial=0 -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Minolta-PagePro_1350W-min12x xw.ppd.gz

Hopefully, your browser and intellect will be able to decipher one of the approaches.
