Afternoon.

I work in broadcast in South Africa.

Only when working with files that have been captured from a tape in pal do I get this problem.

The problem been I get what looks like 3 lines running along the top of the frame?

Dont think its an interlacing problem.

Any thoughts?

I have tried every permutation I can think of.

The worst I get is this:

What you see is the top of the screen and does not sound like "the lines" you describe.

Doesn't appear to be head switching, that was one of thoughts, this quirk only goes halfway along the top.

If I import over firewire from camera to FCP X this is not seen.

I believe it's an artefact created by using HDMI to a Black Magic box capturing to Media Express.

I've added filters, no change.

Might be worth double checking there is no PAL/NTSC mixup:

All my exports rendered the same results as per the top screen shot. DVCPRO50 or Prores 422.

My equipment is slightly different to yours so anything in your chain could be the offender.

I'll wait for that screen shot on Monday. 🙂

I Think so, but I see it in both images, so I'm not sure what the OP is trying to show. It would have been good to see before and after but I don't think this is it. That looks like a recording problem. The lines not tracing properly. It may get accentuated on rendering, but again I'm not seeing any significant difference in the two images.

You're editing DVCPRO 50 standard definition media in an interlaced PAL standard definition project and when you render to DVCPRO 50 you see the lines and when you render to ProRes 422 you don't. Is that correct?

You posted two images of the woman above. They both show the same lines so I don't know what you're trying to show there. The images are much larger than normal and the lines are one scan line appear. I would suspect it's a recording error. Why it disappears in ProRes I don't know, unless something else is being changed as well.
