Please describe what you mean by "plug". Wall adapter? USB cable? A generic cable could cause damage to the lightning connector on the iPhone, especially the less expensive ones, if they are larger than Apple specs. In any case, try restarting your phone and see if the original will work. Hold power and home key together until you see the Apple logo (about 10 seconds)

I can't be sure why you are getting that message if you are sure you are using the original iPhone wall adapter and original USB / Lightning cable. I assume you used your original USB cable with the generic wall adapter. Maybe it damaged the USB cable. This message is common with bad cables.
