Could be a high temp problem. I would install an app that can measure fan speed and temps. There is iStat and the free Macs Fan Control.
Also open the side cover and makes sure the interior and fans blades are clear of dust. Clean as necessary. Make surer the fans spin freely, especially the graphics card fans since they might not show in the temp/fan monitoring app. You can leave the side cover off when the Mac is running to check fan operatin
