BOOTCAMP shows up in startup disk preferences but not showing up in bootloader when holding option key.

Late 2012 27inch iMAC.
I'm running Yosemite 10.10.4 on an external SSD. This is working fine.
I also have an internal HDD which contains an old install of Yosemite and a BOOTCAMP install of Windows 7 which now doesn't seem to work.
I cannot boot into bootcamp anymore. (I think it stopped working when I created a new partition on the HDD for time machine)
The bootcamp drive does not appear in the bootloader when I hold the option key on startup.
HOWEVER the bootcamp drive DOES appear in the startup disk pref pane (this happened when I deleted TUXERA NTFS).
When I try to restart into the bootcamp drive from the startup disk pref pane I get the following error in DOS:
bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key
