Why are my photos not sharing?

I have a MacBook Pro and Yosemite on my computer. I have it set up not to backup all of my photos to the ICloud but I do have checked in Preferences to share albums. I created the album and shared it with a few people but all of them are getting the email and trying to subscribe but they are failing and can't subscribe. Can someone walk me though setting this up so I can share just my albums without backing up all my photos. I keep my photos on a small portable hard drive.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Do you see the shared albums on your Mac via the photos app.

Also, please be aware that shared albums are not a substitute for back ups, shared albums keep your photos at a reduced resolution.

I do see it in Photos but those that I shared it with tell me they receive the email but try to subscribe but can't. I purposely chose not to back up to the ICloud as I prefer to keep my library on portable hard drives. Thank you.

Are the invites going to iOS devices or are you using a public web address.

Private email addresses that can be viewed on IOS or OS.

But what I meant was does the invite open the Photos app or a browser.

It can take a little time to create a shared album for others, maybe you didn't leave it long enough. I tend to create a shared album and share it at different times with a reasonable amount of time between.
