photos - 'use as system photo library' greyed out

Can anyone help please? I changed from iPhoto to Photos some time ago and it worked fine. Now I find that a lot of photos are not transferring from iPhone to Mac nor the other way round. Checked the settings and find that this is what it looks like now. 'Use as System Library' is not available. How can I change this?User uploaded file

How do you expect the Photos to transfer?

Have you iCloud Photo Library enabled in the Photos > Preferences > iCloud tab? Or are you using My Photo Stream? What are your iCloud settings on the Phone? Have you tried to restart your iPhone? Is it fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi? The Camera.app closed on the iPhone?

I was wondering though why a lot of photos are double and treble in my photos and thought that it is picking up from different libraries.

Are you seeing the doubled photos in the Moments or in different albums? They are only duplicates, if they are appearing in Moments and not if they are appearing in several albums.

With your iCloud settings you may have imported photos multiple times if you import them from Photo stream and then connect the iPhone or iPad and import again. Do your duplicates have the same pixel size, or some of your duplicates smaller? The Shared albums will import smaller versions of the same phoatos as you shared.

You#re welcome 🙂

How are you trying to delete from Photos?

You should be able to delete any photo by selecting the thumbnail and then pressing the key combination ⌘⌫ (command-delete). That will move the photo to the Recently Deleted album where it will be kept for a month until it is finally deleted. YOu can open the Recently Deleted album from the View menu and then select photos to restore or to delete terminally.

¡De nada, Sieglinde!

When you are viewing a photo in a Moment and Ctrl-click it, there is also a "Delete 1 Photo" entry in the contextual menu, like this.

In a moment the delete key (or your backspace key) should also delete the photo. But in an album or smart album you need ⌘⌫ to delete a photo from the library.

After ctrl-clicking the photo:
