So I have seen this question answered on this forum but not for iPhones. I can't seem to find any iPhone on the refurbished or clearance are of the Apple Online Store. What does Apple do with their discontinued iPhones? Ex. Gold iPhone 6 Plus 128GB
Yes, like every company that sells anything with a warranty, they also plan production around ensuring the have replacement units for service replacements (in the USA it is effectively a legal requirement of the Magnuson-Moss warranty act that a company plan stock of parts or replacement units around their warranty term limits). They also send the malfunctuoning or damaged units they receive back to the factory for full factory refurbishment and those go back into the service unit stock.
A neighbor of mine recently went in to one of our local Apple stores with an iPhone 3Gs and was able to get an out of warranty exchange for it.
Thank you! They just recently cut out out all the gold versions for the iPhones as well as the 128GB configuration. I happen to have the iPhone 6 Plus in gold with 128GB or storage. I just wanted to be sure that if I needed a replacement they would be able to supply it.
They sell out the stock. Notice the various previous models that are still available through the Apple on-line store.
So what would happen if I needed a replacement? Would they be able to supply the exact model?
They say they will replace with an identical iPhone. Another reason you don't see the limited production models in the refurbished devices very often, they need to be held for use as replacements.
You are welcome...they are just trying to insure they can meet that need should they have to do so.
