There are several, irc, send, talk...

You have to decide which will work the way you want. They all may require some configuration on your part.

Generally, you need a two-way setup. You can't just send a message to an IP address and have it pop something up to that user. You would need something on the other end to receive and display the message.

I don't know what you mean by 'other than using a software' do you mean via built in tools only? Applescript can send remote Apple events (it is flaky in my experience). That requires some config…

OS X Mavericks: Allow remote Apple events

You could send a 'display dialog' or similar event, it will forcibly switch the active application if you are not careful (if you 'tell finder' etc) - kind of 'user hostile'.

You could install terminal-notifier at the remote end, then use ssh to send a message to that Mac. It pops up in the Notifications.

Configure Messages to use a Bonjour account on both systems. Otherwise, do you have or can you add a local XMPP / Jabber server or an IRC server or other such server directly on your local network? If so, then the Messages client or an IRC client can do this locally. The Messages client and such can also use a remote server, of course.

What I did was to share the screen with the other computer over the network. In finder under shared, you will see all computers on your network, click on the one to send the message to, connect to it, share screen and use the control (not view mode) and open their stickies and write the message on their screen. Worked well.
