ios9 - can't add yahoo password

I can't complete the dialogue for re-adding my yahoo password for email and contacts. The setting screen for mail passwords has changed in ios9. Yahoo sucessfully validates the password, but it never seems to get stored in ios9.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Finally !! gheeshe! I hope it holds now.

Lightsimage was correct....the key is you MUST set an app password on your yahoo account. I had to set it up on my laptop, then retried lightimages steps. What a mess!

20 . Under "Outgoing Mail Server," use the following settings:

  • Host Name - smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com
  • User Name - Your Business Mail email address
  • Password - Your app password
  • Use SSL - On
  • Authentication - Password
  • Server Port - 465

You must do on-demand passwords. I used to do 2-step, and when that didn't work, I switched to on demand tonight. Probably took me an hour to work thru this. And it was the 4th evening of trying to make it work.

01:25 PM PST: Business mail sending and receiving issues in iOS9 built in mail app

The recent iOS9 upgrade for Apple phones and devices has caused sending and receiving issues for business email users using the built in mail app.

Affected users are those that originally chose the “Yahoo Mail” default account type. To resolve this issue, affected users should first remove the business email account from the built in mail app. Then, add their business email account with the “Other” account type

I was having the same issue. The solutions listed here worked...almost! The issue I am now having is that my SENT folder does not show all my sent emails. I am working with both an iPhone 5 and iPhone air. On the 5, I still have my old business account but it won't receive emails. However, it does uodate my sent folder I added my business account using method above. It gets emails but will not update my sent folder (the messages in my sent folder are from EIGHT years ago!). So on my 5, I have 2 accounts for the same business account. The old account (prior to updating to iOS 9) will not receive mail but does have all my old sent emails and will update the sent folder. The new account will receive email but only has emails in the sent folder that are 8 years old.

ON my iPad Air, I deleted the business email prior to adding it back using the steps suggested by users here. It gets mail but the sent folder does only contains sent emails from 8 years ago and will not show new ones sent). Any suggestions?

Lowbflat - tried your steps. Worked fine, until I received the message saying "cannot connect via SSL", and asks me if I want to try without. I respond with OK, and I receive this message...The IMAP server "imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "incoming Mail Server" field. Checked it over, and it's exactly correct, so now I'm stumped again .

just wanted to share that after trying several steps -- I simply got off wi-fi and into LTE (cellular data mode) and was able to enter the yahoo acct the normal way. for some reason once I set it up and tried to get back on wi-fi it is not loading my account... so I tried to get off wi-fi and bingo I'm up and running. just wanted to share how I stumbled into this work-around

edited my post just now -- because I ran into this article ... thought I'd share

Same problem, I log into my Yahoo email and the screen just blinks as if I never entered my password... While adding my Yahoo email via the "other" add email option provides a temporary fix for sending and receiving email, it does not allow me to connect my Yahoo calendar. I hope that Apple will address this problem in an update soon. The add Yahoo email option in the settings should work, I can't believe it has gone unaddressed for this long...
