Rear camera stopped working after upgrade to iOS 9

Yes,you did.Now,we wait for others to write there.Maybe,if more will post,apple will try to fix this in a future update,even if they'll not officialy recognize the problem.That if it's possible to be fixed by an update..It would be sad if they won't delete our posts,that means that they don't give a ..:)))).

Same issue on my iPhone 6. After the upgrade to iOS9 the rear camera stopped working. None of the fixes suggested in this thread work for my phone.

I Just did the latest update about 3 minutes ago. I guess they didn't think that our cameras not working warranted an immediate fix. What a joke!

I can only imagine at this point that Apple has a whole team of 10 year old child slave laborors working around the clock to rectify the issue.

It was strange as it was working fine until ios 9.2 update last night , apple support after 3 hours told me it was a hardware issue !!! scans showed no problems ect !!!!

I'm glad if it works for the rest of you but that's not the camera I am having problems with. The confusion for me lies in the designation of front facing and rear facing cameras. I fear the only solution to my problem is to replace the unit even though it did work flawlessly before updating my firmware. I have never used it to take a 'selfie' so I know that looking at my face didn't break it, lol. I am getting up in my years and taking a 'selfie' might be on my bucket list so I would like my camera to work again and I know it's nothing that I did that broke it.

Same issue here on 5s - was working until about a week ago - then camera started being blurry and then failed altogether - restored - tried low power toggle, tried light pressing. Same issue on 9.0.* and 9.1

Same problem here in germany.

After upgrading to ios 9 rear camera freeze. No issue is helping. Update to 9.1 is not helping.

It's frustrating... Please help

BRIEF SUMMARY: I had this problem with my iPhone 5 and I solved it by having the camera/flash unit replaced for $65 at a repair shop

LONGER VERSION: I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS9 several weeks ago. After a few weeks of normal use, I experienced the same problem described by others in this thread (rear camera and flashlight stopped working). I read all posts in this thread, and many others, looking for solutions. I tried everything in this thread, and from other sites (including all sorts of button-press and restart combinations; different types of restores; physically pressing on the rear camera, etc.). None of these things worked.

I went to a local repair shop (I googled "iPhone repair" in my city; there is no apple store near me). The repair shop replaced the rear camera and the flash (apparently they come as a unit). It cost $65 plus tax, and the repair took a few hours. The technician speculated that a short that was affecting both the camera and the flash. Everything is working perfectly now. The technician changed only the camera and flash hardware, not the software.

My assessment: I think my camera/flash unit broke, and that the upgrade to iOS 9 was coincidental.

With $65 spent, my phone is back to normal. Considering that I've owned my iPhone 5 for three years, and taken a huge number of photos, I suppose it shouldn't be disappointing that it would need replacement.

Clearly some people on this post have a different problem, because restoring the phone fixed the problem. If you have this problem, and if the solutions presented in this thread don't work for you, perhaps you need to have the camera/flash unit replaced in your phone. I speculate that this problem is NOT related to a software upgrade; it is coincidental that some of us have had this problem after a software upgrade, and many of us experienced the same coincidence because of the large number of iPhones on Earth.

I'm sure you are right in that some of the instances must be the camera breaking down. But even for the millions of iPhones sold, it has to be an incredible coincidence that so many are reporting problems around the time of the iOS9x.x. possible. Perhaps it is statistically possible, but mercy!

Don't forget that there are more than 500 million iPhones on Earth. There are less than 100 commenters in this thread. So this coincidence would have to occur to less than one in 50 million iPhone users, and we would still end up here in this thread communicating with each other.

Normally i'd say that you got a point in your explanation,but i want to point out two things:

1-after my first attempt on bringing the phone back to factory settings,started it as a new iphone,the camera worked again and i took about 5 photos before it went black..i'd say ,if it is a hardware problem,once is broken is broken.

2-i am talking about a less than a month old iphone,so if it is a hardware problem i wonder if spending so much money on apple products worth it.

Wow, the dude from apple support said the exact same thing about the number of phones vs the number of faults. I can understand that logic. But broken hardware is broken hardware. can anyone explain getting the camera to work again by reinstalling the update then switching low power on and off, a quick restart then poof, a miracle the camera works again. Hardware doesn't fix itself. They are little computers at the end of the day. Didn't anykne ever have their computer freeze because there was too many usb devices plugged in and there wasn't enough power to function properly. How do we know that the update doesn't sap the power to allow other new features to function. I imagine the camera and flash light use the most energy and that's the thing that malfunctioned for people after the update. Although only 100 people have commented, it now has 16,000 views. I used to look at stuff and not comment.

i should add that reading some of the comments, it does sound like there are genuine hardware problems. My daughters camera and flashlight stopped working after the update then worked again after doing the above. People reporting blurryness etc probably need a new camera.
