ipad 2 upgrade to iOS9 failed and destroyed my iPad

So I got the alert from iTunes to upgrade my ipad2 to the new IOS9 today. plugged in the iPad to my Macbook, and now my iPad no longer works nor will restore. In fact it won't even respond after its screen request to connect to itunes. So Now this upgrade appears to have been responsible for killing my iPad that was working just fine prior.. How do I fix this or how is Apple going to fix what they did to my iPad?

Updated ipad Gen2 to iOS9.

* received slide to upgrade issue - (can't slide) Did the two finger reboot no less then eleventy MILLION times.

* attached ipad Gen2 to computer with itunes - was able to make a back up, but not able to restore.

* was required to turn off 'locate ipad app'

* was unsuccessful with command, as the slide to upgrade prevents anything else, carpal tunnel ensued from this process.

* got angry, really angry - paused for 7 days awaiting Apple to respond to it's colossal ef up.

(Seven days later, after seeing the iOS 9.0.1 update all over the web.. (today))

* attached same ipad Gen 2 to itunes on computer

* was briefly excited as the ipad showed signs of life, while asking icloud settings, etc...

* quickly was knocked down, trying to go into recovery mode, only to have it 'not find my ipad' that is connected

* got even more angry

* went through this feed, found the ReiBoot thing, was worried this would be virus, but willing to try anything at this point.

* downloaded it, and now trying it.

* 7 hours into this now but it is looking promising, showing far more progress on the black apple icon screen than it has in the past almost two weeks.

* fingers crossed

* restore now asks, to 'Activate iPad'

* EUREKA! This finally fixed it.

* Turned on location services

* Removed password

* Connect to iTunes - wait wait wait (freaking out inside because it is not connecting)

RESTORE IN PROGRESS

Finally worked.

This was not fun. I am happy to say that at LEAST it wasn't my phone.

I am now on the newest update and the iPad is working.

(Is this detailed enough for you?)

I don't disagree with that. But purchasing a new iPad because the forced update breaks/disables my 2 year old current one is like saying;
A new house was built next door three years after mine was built, so I either have to build another brand new one or I have to move. Kind of dumb, huh?

I come from the generation that you just don't replace everything, you fix it. (tv's, computer's, dishwasher's, husband's)

I understand that technology changes, but these things are frustrating for even the experienced, computer science college graduate, like myself.
I do so appreciate these forums however.

Yes. Dumb. Most ridiculous analogy I have read here for some time. Do houses go out of date that quick? I hadn't noticed, as mine runs perfectly well on power, gas and water as my neighbours.

But thanks for the laugh. 🙂

I had this issue with my iPad 2,1 that still had iOS 4.3.1. Upgrading to iOS 9.0.1 bricked it.

I did a search for ipsw iPad 2 and found sites with the previous iOS updates. I downloaded the 8.4.1 version.

After doing the force restart directions from other replies I then did the update using the ipsw 8.4.1 file.

the update was successful and I was then able to update to iOS 9.0.1.

I did this after leaving the Apple Store having purchased a $500 iPad to replace my iPad 2 that the 'genius' said was no long good.

I've returned that purchase for a full refund.

Stop Jailbreaking your iPad. That may help.

I was updating my ipad 2 just 3 days back to ios 9.0.2 n my ipad crashed while updating showing error (9)! i took it to apple authorized service center and now they r asking me to pay half the price of the device for replacement. I'm totally shocked and now i m waiting for any solution from apple for this problem. Else, i'm not gonna leave this so easily. It is some mistake from their end!

Same exact issue here, never had an issue updating until now. Bricked my iPad. Took it to the Apple store and the snot-nosed technician told me that I must have a hardware issue that existed since before my attempted update, and that the old iOS had somehow figured out a workaround. Once I tried to update though, she says the hardware issue was exposed. Sounds to me like the update was actually a downgrade, and/or she was blowing smoke up my skirt. Anyway, for a mere $250 I can get a replacement device to replace the iPad they broke. Such a deal. Going to try to regress my iOS back a few revs and NEVER update it again. If that does 't work, the. Kindle Fire here I come.
