stuck on slide to upgrade on iPhone 5 after upgrading to ios9 help!!!
iOS 9
same problem with 5s - I am trying through iTunes on computer - still nothing - anyone out there any ideas???
I am having the same problem. Now if apple sees all these complaints they need to fix it. I wonder how we will fix it if we cant even acess our settings. Hope its resolved soon.
Eureka! Got iOS9 to work on my 5s after multiple failures with the dreaded "Slide To Upgrade Prompt IDiocy" (aka STUPID). Wishing Jim Cook festering boils.
Executed the above steps, performing a restore via ITunes, 3 times with no luck. Finally, the way it worked is by bypassing all post-restore options - connect to wifi, fingerprint, Apple ID, restore data, etc. It seems that it's the restoration of your backup data which causes the STUPID situation. I used iCloud for my backup. After bypassing all those steps I got to the main UI.
Celebrated with a shot of single malt, and now searching Amazon for a Jim Cook dartboard. How do I get the last 4 hours of my life back? Now I need to restore my backup from iCloud and hope my phone doesn't get stuck on STUPID again.
Let's hope Apple issues a patch VERY, VERY soon! Meanwhile, Strausscenter's fix worked for me.
Same issue here, iPhone 5S running 7.1.1. After spending nearly 4 hours on this, I downgraded to 8.4.1 as Apple is still signing this firmware and am successfully restored and operational . Going to wait on the IOS 9 update when the dust settles. Apple really messed up.
UPDATE: I followed cfurer and Strausscenter, If you do combo of those, you can at least get to a point where you are at least functional: I am on iOS9, I have contacts (Thank God), and some things backed up in iCLOUD or iTUNES. It's not perfect, but it's not starting all the way over.
Hi all, I HAVE A FIX!
Spent the last 12 hours pulling my hair out trying to find a solution to the problem - and I think I have one!
Did a bit of Googling and a guy on Reddit had the solution that worked for me. I upgraded from iOS 7 to iOS 9 and that caused an issue when I tried to restore my back up. However, by downgrading to 8.1.4 (as it is still signed), restoring the back up (my files all returned, but my apps disappeared strangely..) and THEN update to iOS 9 and it finally worked.
Here's the solution:
Finally fixed it! You have to downgrade to 8.4.1. Outlined the steps below.
Step 1 - Backup your pictures! Even though you can't get to your phone and use it you should still be able to backup your pictures
Step 2 - Download IOS 8.4.1 for your iPhone or iPad from this site --> https://ipsw.me/8.4.1
The file was taking a while to download for my phone so I searched the filename on Google and downloaded from Mega.
Step 3 - Reboot phone into DFU mode - hold down power button and home button - when it reboots let go of power button - still hold home button
At this point it will ask you to connect your phone to iTunes - will have to connect phone to the computer.
Step 4 - Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and and then click restore.
Step 5 - Browse to the 8.4.1 file you downloaded and select it. This should restore to the previous IOS version. Note: This will wipe phone.
Step 6 - Restore from backup. Hope that you backed up before attempting to update.
Hope this helps you all! :-)
EDIT: Reinstalled the apps by going into the app store and viewing my purchases - they're all there. Downloaded them all and they all sorted themselves back into their categories as I had them before. Whatsapp conversations were also restored so it works. HOORAY!
I am extremely frustrated! As a mum of 2, time is precious! And I have spent my 'free time' trying to fix this problem that Apple is the cause of. I am about to try one of the suggestions above once download of previous versions is complete. This is taking some time though. But really, it shouldn't be left with people to try to work this out. Apple don't employ you to fix their mistakes. Apple (or an advocate for Apple) should be replying to these forums to assist with an appropriate solution.
Not Happy Apple. Makes me think of all those friends of mine that try to convince me to go to a Samsung.
how do you fix it please
I'm also extremely frustrated about this. There should be a solution for all people experiencing this problem asap, the device doesn't function anymore.
Very lame for not having this tested before giving us the mass update. Will there be any official news/replies on this topic?
Thank you so much for the help, however I have hit another brick wall...
When I click on restore and choose the ipsw file, a message appears saying that the firmware is not compatible. Do you know why?
I'm feeling your pain Jason5S
Here is my experience with this issue.
I have iPhone 4s and I spent the whole night today restoring 4 times, until I figured out the problem. The problem appears to be with the passcode to unlock your phone. That is, if you have a passcode enabled then you get stuck at this screen. After doing the restore 3 times, I have figured this out and restored without setting the passcode at the initial setup stage. After I got everything running, I enabled the passcode and then my iPhone fell into an infinite loop between the screen "slide to upgrade" and enter passcode. So I ended up doing the 4th restore and kept the passcode disabled.
Needless to say, I cursed my decision to upgrade to IOS 9 an infinite number of times, as up until now I was running IOS 7 and everything was working fine.
I'm no expert, but I'd say there is some bug with passcode.
It means you have the wrong firmware for your device's model number. I had that issue too. Turns out my firmware isn't the GSM one, it was the global one (CDMA) - worked fine for me! Hope that helps!
Thanks for the sympathy I also share for you. Here is what solved it for me.
Connect your device to a laptop with iTunes opened already. Then hold the power and home button for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds release the power button and keep the home button pressed, untill iTunes gives you the message "device is in recovery mode".
At that point you can choose to update or recover; I choose to recover. iTunes then downloads iOS9 and installs it on the device.
After this finished i immediately got the same problem again. Argh thanks ! However when i went through the cycle again it worked.
The only downside is that I had to restore all apps again.
Hope this helps!!

This is ridiculous. Really angry at Apple. They are killing Steve Jobs' legacy.
