Hi katkouk ... I have also problem after trying to update to iOS9. You at least had something happening. In my case, my iPad Air 2 just doing loops (restarting and restarting and restarting) :-( ... I've tried to do restore via iTunes, but I am having the very same thing :-(

This thing happens EVERY time when Apple upgrades their operating systems :-(

I really don't know what to do?! I might walk-in in one of their shops tomorrow and ask THEM to do it for me :-(

I have similar problem with my iPhone. At 1st it was stuck on "slide to upgrade." Then I was able to get past that, but not far. Now I'm able to do the "slide," but it only takes me to a screen where I can enter the passcode I created just before all this hassle started, which then takes me to the "Apple" symbol with a progress bar, like it's working on doing something, then it returns to the "slide to upgrade" message, & so on & so forth in a never-ending loop! I can't get to anything else! I tried a test call to the phone & it didn't go through either. I took it to the Verizon store, where I was given some sketchy instructions about installing iTunes on my computer & then hooking up my phone to the computer to solve a problem with the phone's operating system. After futzing around quite a while to figure out exactly how to do this, I came upon some more detailed instructions about "recovery" & "restore." Anyway, it looks like I may have to lose all my contacts, photos, & videos, including some of my mother shortly before she died a few months ago, in order to get the phone working again. Now I'm learning that it's recommended that users do a back-up before installing updates, but there was no warning when I responded to the prompt to install it. There was plenty of hype about how good the upgrade was, however. I may be ignorant, but I had no idea that something like this could happen. I just figured that the data was stored in the phone & the only way it could be lost is if the phone was lost or physically damaged.

Since I want to avoid having to lose my data, guess I'll try to do a walk-in at the Apple Store tomorrow, although it's recommended that customers make a "reservation." The next open "reservation" at the nearest store, which is about 25 miles away, isn't until next Tues., when I'll be working, of course. It takes a lot of digging on the website to be able to even find the link to make a "reservation." I rely heavily on my phone for work, but I may end up having time to go to the store & wait around, because people who need my services won't be able to contact me after all! Except being stuck at the store waiting to be worked into their schedule will interfere with appointments I do have!

From the postings here, it looks like this upgrade is a massive fail! It's certainly something I would have passed on if I knew what a hassle it would be!

Hi AnneCauley 🙂

I can understand your frustrations, as I had (again) a nightmare to install this update myself, BUT I've learned from previous problems with updates that I should have:

1) ANOTHER MOBILE PHONE as a backup, even if my original is stolen. I have very cheap £9.99 mobile phone that you can find on Amazon or eBay.

2) BACKUP, BACKUP & BACKUP stuff ... When I had a problem to update my iOS device, I had to do tough move - to RESTORE the system (tried several times, as I had a problem even to do that 😟 ). Despite I did a backup of my apps in iCloud just 5 hours prior to system update, what I've got (after I've managed to restore the system), was backup from roughly 6 months ago?! Now I am slowly reinstalling my apps (I have a few hundreds of them).

Anyway, regarding CONTACTS or any DOCUMENT backup: I have my ORIGINAL documents on my iOS device, BACKUPS in various clouds (Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc AND 3rd copy on my EXTERNAL drive, so no problems there 🙂

Hello,

I have this issue too and it looks like, for right now at least, the only potential solution is to restore from a back up. And if you have no back up, that means you likely will lose everything. BUT FIRST! before you attempt a restore, you should be able to connect your device to a computer and move your pictures and videos onto the computer!, thus saving them from being deleted! The steps are as follows:

***note*** this process is derived from my device(an ipad). So the folder names may be different but they should still be there somewhere. just look around.

  1. connect device to a computer
  2. open the file explorer (should look like a yellow folder)
  3. click on "this pc" on the left and then click on your device
  4. click internal storage
  5. click DCIM
  6. click 100Apple (folder names may vary)
  7. your pictures and videos should be in this folder or a similar folder!
  8. just copy and past then to the computer and they should be safe.

I hope this helps you and everyone else recover as much as they can!

I got the same problem, since I started updating IOS 9, I don't have access anymore, it is not connected to WIFI. it is just keep on running requesting update on IOS 9. it seems the internet connection is failed. i don't know how it works again. i tried reboot, restart and on and off. but the same thing, stressful and discouraging. i can say i regret updating.

I had this problem but I've solved because someone wrote these instructions. I downloaded the version compatible with the model of my Ipad and then through Itunes I upgraded version IOS9 to previous IOS version 8.4.1. If you follow the steps explained with care, they will succeed and regain their iPad or iPhone device without losing what they had in them.

This is the link:https://www.reddit.com/r/ios9/comments/3l7nt8/slide_to_upgrade_freeze_iphone_5c/

Finally fixed it! You have to downgrade to 8.4.1. Outlined the steps below.

Step 1 - Backup your pictures! Even though you can't get to your phone and use it you should still be able to backup your pictures

Step 2 - Download IOS 8.4.1 for your iPhone or iPad from this site --> https://ipsw.me/8.4.1

If you are confused which file to download check the model on back of your phone and use site below to determine the version you need.

https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/Models

The file was taking a while to download for my phone so I searched the filename on Google and downloaded from Mega.

Step 3 - Reboot phone into DFU mode - hold down power button and home button - when it reboots let go of power button - still hold home button

At this point it will ask you to connect your phone to iTunes - will have to connect phone to the computer.

Step 4 - Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and and then click restore.

Step 5 - Browse to the 8.4.1 file you downloaded and select it. This should restore to the previous IOS version. Note: This will wipe phone.

Step 6 - Restore from backup. Hope that you backed up before attempting to update.

UPDATE : After installing 8.4.1 I was able to update to IOS9 with no issues. I was initially running IOS7 when I attempted to upgrade the first time. Hope this helps everyone out.
