How does Carplay work?

I updated my software to iOS 9 and I'm trying to use carplay. How do I does it work? I looked on the car manufacture list and my car company is listed.

AFAIK, only the 2016 Honda Accord is currently equipped with a CarPlay enabled Media Center.

A 2015 Hyrbid Civic only has the Honda Link. No CarPlay.

Easy way to tell, is the icons need to look like the iPhone icons. Like really close to the iPhone icons design as shown on Apple's website. .

I just got a 2016 Accord EX with CarPlay. It is a great handsfree experience with a limited number of apps today.

On the 2016 Accord EX with LaneWatch using the upper screen, CarPlay remains uninterrupted on the lower screen. On the 2015/2016 Honda CR-V, the lower screen is used for touchscreen and for LaneWatch - causing interruptions in using the touchscreen and even Siri HandsFree when the right turn signal is turned on activating LaneWatch. I suspect that this dual purpose lower screen is the hardware issue that prevents Honda from releasing CarPlay on the 2015/2016 CR-V.

For the 2016 Accord, CarPlay is only available on the EX trim level and above. CarPlay requires a USB/Lightning cable plugged in to your phone and the car. The following link is a good overview of CarPlay on the 2016 Accord.
