iPhone 5 Stuck on slide to upgrade after iOS 9 update..

Hi all,

I was rather happy with iOS 7 so never upgraded to 8 - but then 9 has just come out so I decided I would finally update my iPhone for the battery enhancements. Updated it via iTunes and the install seemed to go well, however, I'm now stuck on the slide to upgrade screen and my phone is just unresponsive - it won't slide!

It comes up the first time and it works, I enable location services and Wi-Fi, but then the slide message comes up again and it doesn't work.

I've hard to reboot the iPhone with the Sleep and Home button, but get stuck on the same part again.

Anyone else struggling?

Hi,

I am still stuck with the slide to upgrade screen and have been since Friday morning. I have spent hours trying to find the solution online and nothing has managed to work as of yet. I have downloaded 3 different 8.4.1 firmware files and all 3 of them have produced the same message about not being compatible. I have been downloading the 8.4.1 for the iphone 5s GSM. I presume this is the right one if im in the UK?

Anyone else had this problem? Or found the solution?

Thank you in advance.

Help! I've also had the same issue with the locked slide screen but unfortunately haven't backed up my phone in awhile. I connected to Itunes for the back up but it froze at "step 2 of 5" and appears unresponsive though some of the photos have been transferred to the computer. Does anyone have a solution, apple has said that I'm going to lose all of my photos, I'm devastated. They don't seem to have an answer to why itunes is freezing up.

I have been facing the same problem:

My telephone has frozen to the "slide to upgrade" stage after a recent upgrade to ios9. I cannot restore through itunes since the "find my iphone" feature is on. I have removed my iphone from the "find my iphone" list on icloud to no avail. Every time i try to restore iphone or restore iphone back up i am prompted to switch off "find my iphone". the device has been frozen for at least 10 hours. any ideas? it seems that all of the above could work if i could find a way to switch the "find my iphone feature" 😟 please help!!! many thanks!

I will not profess to be an apple genius however i have had similar issues to yourself and i have just managed to get my phone working. I also removed my phone from the "find my iphone" app on the cloud website. But it still kept saying it won't be able to restore without turning it off.

You will need to put your phone in recovery mode. From your current position on "slide to upgrade" this is what I did:

*Hopefully have everything backed up prior to performing a restore

*Reset my phone (holding home and power button).

*You will then arrive at square one where you need to input you pin

*Then turn your phone off ('slide to power off')

*Plug your usb cable into your pc/laptop (not the phone yet though)

*With your phone being switched off plug the usb in **while holding the home button**

*This should put your phone into recovery where the icon requests you plug it into itunes

*Then click restore on itunes

*Then set the phone up as a new phone

I did this yesterday after being down since Fri 17th. When i tried to restore a backup from my icloud it ended up going back to "slide to upgrade" screen.

I haven't managed to find a way to restore my backup yet. But at least I can use my phone as normal now and luckily I had backed my pictures and contacts externally.

I am sure there is probably a better solution but I have noticed that a lot of people are complaining about their icloud back-up going missing so maybe its a temporary problem.. Whos knows, either way apple have caused a MASSIVE inconvenience, haven't apologised and certainly won't provide anything which will compensate for lost time / money!!

Good luck

Hi, i have experienced similar cases as yours (upgrading from ios 7 to ios 9) and got freeze at the slide to upgrade screen.

My last backup restore point on iTunes was 14th of August and my phone just recently reset to factory setting.

At this state I tried to restore from backup but after an eternity of waiting and it just repeat the same tragedy when it attempting to run ios 9 😟

Can i use your solution (downgrade from ios 9 to ios 8.4.1) and restore my phone from iTunes backup and rollback to 14th of August?

I need my contact and notes freaking bad 😟

Also, does the wifi network speed affect the restoring from backup?

This worked for two iPhone on iOS7 and an iPad on iOS6. My question: is the link provided know good code. Some times while texting a grey bubble with 000 in the right shows up and blocks the view of what you are typing. The fix is to close (swipe up) the app and restart it. Just wan't sure if this was an Apple iOS9 issue or due to the back door loading of 8.4.

Restoring your phone to previous iOS version definitely does the trick (If your phone wasn't set-up on iCloud for automatic back-ups before you updated to iOS9, hopefully you would have a recent back-up on your iTunes on your computer/laptop as installing a previous iOS will erase/wipe all content from your phone).

If your not sure what iOS firmware file to use for your phone you can use this website to check:

http://www.iphonehacks.com/download-iphone-ios-firmware

Once you know what firmware file you must use for you phone you can choose this from the list and download it to your computer (the download speeds are actually decent from this website so you should be able to get the required file in 10-15 minutes depending on your broadband speed).

You would then use "harpreet0singh" instructions that he posted.
