iTunes 12.3.0.44 for Windows 10 64 bit NOT working

Today I download the latest version of iTunes 12.3.0.44. I also upgraded my iPhone 5s and iPad Air to iOS 9.0

When I open iTunes and connect my devices to my Windows PC it does not detect either device.

I am stuck at this point with no ability to backup or transfer purchases to my PC

Devices

Windows 10 PC 8 GB RAM

iPhone 5s 16 GB

iPad Air 16 GB

Troubleshooting

1) I have reinstalled iTunes 12.3.0.44

2) Checked cables USB lightening cables

3. Used Device manager to see if device drivers were current and the USB ports were working

Would appreciate any input on how to resolve the issues.

Thank you,

Rob

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.

If you've tried the above without success then see the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install.

I had this same problem, Win10, IOS 9.0.1, IPhone6, and Upgraded Itunes 12.3.0.44 and it would not recognize my IPhone6 was connected, but forcing a reinstall of the Apple IPhone Device Driver for the IPhone worked; follow these steps:

If anyone else has this problem with 12.3.0.44 and Windows 10, I fixed it by following these steps.

In Windows Device Manager look for your Apple IPhone; probably located under Portable Devices

Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.

Click "Browse my computer for driver software".

Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

Click the Have Disk button.

(If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)

In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.

Use this window to navigate to the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.

Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).

Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.

Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

This fixed my problem immediately. Good Luck.

OK, I confess, I've been trying to get this update to install correctly for nearly two weeks now. I have followed TT2's excellent links and suggestions, and eventually got round to uninstalling the old version of iTunes in the hope it would help (this was a Bad Move viewed with superb hindsight).

All seems to install well until the 'second phase' of installation when this appears . . . . . .

User uploaded file

Pointing to the correct folder, or entering the path results in a repeat of the above message. Giving up and clicking on 'Cancel' leads to this . . . . .

User uploaded file

So, even though I have performed what I think is a complete uninstall, and have checked all the old iTunes files have been removed, the installer thinks otherwise.

I have tried running CCleaner to remove/repair old/damaged registry files, to no avail. Same result and messages.

I have tried re-installing the older version of iTunes. Same result and messages (even after carefully clearing out all the Apple related files and software).

My long term wish to throw all Windows products out is coming closer by the minute, but right now, I need this to work - can anyone offer any further clues or tips?

I'm reasonably tech-savvy as an ex-professional engineer, but I am frustrated beyond belief that this update seems to have caused havoc.

Has anyone else come across this? Laptop is a Dell Latitude E5530 running Windows 10 Pro - not that it should make any difference, but you never know . . . . . .

Thanks 🙂
