After upgrade to iOS9, iCloud backup says 0 bytes, and all apps have "no data"

Hello -

After upgrading this morning to iOS9, my iCloud backup now shows 0 bytes, a "next backup" size of 0 bytes, and all of my apps are shown as "no data."

Prior to this, on iOS 8.4.1, my backup was about 1.3GB, and nothing else has changed other than upgrading the iOS.

I have already tried rebooting, and logging out and back into iCloud. Nothing works.

Anybody else experience this and is there a fix?

Thank you in advance.

Erase your device and restore it from the iCloud backup you made just before your updated.

Go to Settings>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. Then follow the prompts to set up the device and when asked, select your last iCloud backup to restore the phone. It will take some time to download the apps from the backup, but just put it aside until it is done.

Just called Apple care for the same issue.

Please do this steps after taking a backup in your PC/Mac

Settings --> iCloud --> Logout

It will ask confirmation for delete the notes

Again it will ask confirmation for delete and will ask for delete or keep the contacts and messages.

After logout do reboot by pressing home button and power button.

Once switch on login to the iCloud.

Do a iCloud back up now.

If you still face issue call Apple care.

Cheers,

Hello everyone!

I tried to call Apple, and now seems to genuinely solved the problem that plagued even my iPhone 6.

Try it this way.

Go into space management of iCloud and disabled applications that weigh heavily, so with a lot of data to be loaded.

Once done go to force the backup manually.

My I did it and reset the values of the app in iCloud.

Then try to add the other app with greater weight and then restore another backup.

Apparently there are various bugs for ios 9, then with patience you can solve.

To all the people saying that the backup eventually worked, have normal backups continued on a routine basis?

On iOS 8.4.1 and earlier, my iPhone used to backup to iCloud on a nightly basis every time I plugged it in at the end of the day.

On iOS 9, since the upgrade, I have had 1 seemingly successful backup. But, there are still two problems:

(1) I have no faith that the backup worked properly, because the amount of data listed for each app appears to be way off. I only have 4 photos in my camera roll, but it says camera roll is taking up 120MB, which is not possible. I also have hundreds of MBs of data in GoodReader, but it shows GoodReader only takes up 23MB of space in iCloud (again, not possible).

(2) Although I have had that one backup, it has not backed up since that one time.

Additionally, to all of those people claiming it's a server issue, that definitely does not appear to be the case. That is, I don't think it's JUST a server issue. I say that because after upgrading my two devices to iOS 9 and having this problem, I decided against upgrading my wife's devices. So, my devices (which are on iOS 9) don't backup, while my wife's devices (on iOS 8.4.1) backup without problem every single night. If this was purely a server issue, it would seem that the devices wouldn't be split between iOS 8 and 9 like they are in my house.

I just got off the phone with Apple support, and the representative that I spoke with had no idea how to fix this, and was not even aware that so many users are experiencing this problem. This doesn't sound to me like a fix is imminent.

So, not sure why your device is not backing up nightly now. My iPhone 5s has been backing up every night with no issues. Right after the initial release of iOS 9, I had issues getting it to back up, and also got the "not enough space to back up" error one time. When I got that error, I did a manual backup, and it has been running fine since then.

So, when we were saying it was server issues, that was a week ago, and at that time there is no question that it was contributing to a lot of problems for people. Several posters who were not successful in doing either manual backups or automatic backups reported a few days later that things were back to normal for them.

For your photos, the size of the photos backup is for your "Photo Library", which includes all of the photos you see when you open up the Photos app on your device with the exception of the Photo Stream. Does that seem more in line with what you are seeing?

Have you tried a manual backup recently? If it doesn't go, try deleting the backup and then try the manual backup again. You can also try turning "Backup" off under Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, select your device, and then scroll down to where it says Backup. Once you toggle it off, toggle it back on again and try the manual backup again.

Best of luck,

GB

Yes, I understand how the Photo backup works. I have never had Photo Stream turned on, only have 4 photos in my camera roll, and nothing in the deleted folder. So, the Photo backup should be around 10MB, not 120MB.

When I try a manual backup, it says "the last backup could not be completed." It never works. The automatic backup worked once in the last week. Other than that single instance, the backup never works.

I just got off the phone with a Senior Customer Service Representative with Apple. The iCloud issues are plaguing almost all iPhone users who upgraded to iOS 9. Notice how iCloud and all your back-ups were working fine before you upgraded your software? Mine stopped working the night I did. There is a bug in iOS 9 that is effecting iCloud. Apple is currently working on a fix for the issue and will release it in a future upgrade shortly. Until then I recommend backing up and restoring from your computer. That should still work quickly and perfectly, just as mine is. Good Luck!
