Sketch/Draw mode is missing from new NOTES app (iPad 3rd generation - iOS9)...What's wrong?

I upgraded my iPad 3rd generation to iOS9, and tried to use the sketch/draw mode, but all my efforts to find this feature within the app were to no avail....what's wrong? anybody else experiencing this issue?

I believe you can only draw notes and use the extra features (bulleted lists, etc) on notes that exist in the "On my iPhone" / "On my iPad" folder within the Notes app (I could be mistaken but this is how I'm seeing it). To access and use notes "On my iPhone" / "On my iPad":

1. Open the Notes app

2. At the top of the screen, tap the back arrow

3. Find "On my iPhone" / "On my iPad" in the list

4. Tap on "Notes" under the "On my iPhone" / "On my iPad" heading

5. Tap on the new note icon at the bottom-right (iPhone) or top-right (iPad)

You can now tap the round + button which will reveal the additional features (iPhone)

Or tap on the new features just above the keyboard on the right side (iPad)

I don't know if the new features can be added to old notes that already exist on the device unless you move those notes to the "On my iPhone" / "On my iPad" notes folder. I also did NOT update whatever the Notes app was wanting to update when it was first opened immediately after the iOS 9 update (I now forget what that even was).

I had the same problem with my iPad3. Cannot draw sketches in Notes for IOS9 on the iPad, but I can draw them on an iPhone 5. I checked for an alternative. I also use Microsoft OneNote in the iPad (version 2.16 2). This application allows me to draw sketches on the iPad. Clearly, it is not a hardware problem, but an Apple decision. I can then see the sketches that I created on the iPad on my iphone and on my Macbook Pro (I had created an account with Microsoft for the free cloud storage). Since this is a Microsoft application, I can also see them on my Windows laptop that I use for work. I cannot understand why Apple excluded that feature in Notes for this version of the iPad.

....and I have an iPad 2 so I am laughing at this LOL! so what can I expect? I'm surprised iOS 9 runs at all! I knew Apple would pull a low blow like this to its loyal fans like they've done in the past. A sneaky way to force people to ditch more money for an expensive iPad that does the same thing that your old one can do, just so you can get the new iOS features. Luckily I've been using Evernote for a long time so no reason for me to switch apps.

Asboites, That does not seem to be the complete/ correct answer. I have two iPads, one is the iPad 2 and the iPad Air 2. Both of them connect to the same iCloud account and I do not have notes stored locally on the iPads. Please explain how on the iPad 2 I don't have an option to sketcn but on the iPad Air 2 I have the sketch options, and remember all notes are on iCloud. Is it that on the iPad 2 notes need to be stored locally and on the iPad Air they can be on ICloud? That doesn't seem to make sense.

I have an iPad Air 2 and had a similar issue after upgrading to IOS 9. I found a solution with the help of Apple Support:

Issue is that the new NOTES program is having an issue with some data in your existing notes and is therefore not showing all the formatting options.

Resolution Steps:

1) Backed up ipad to my PC via iTunes

2) Signed-in to iCloud.com and copied all my notes to MS Word

3) Deleted all notes from NOTES in iCloud.com

4) On iPad, went into Settings/Icloud and turned off NOTES in icloud

5) On Ipad, went into Settings/General/Reset and did "Reset all Settings"

6) Manually re-keyed notes from MS Word back into Notes in icloud.com. I did not copy n paste for fear I might also copy whatever data is causing the issue to begin with.

7) On iPad, signed back into icloud and then turned on Notes (in icloud).

8) My notes appeared on my device with with all formatting options present. ISSUE RESOLVED.

Then had to re-enter my various settings and logins for my apps and accounts on the device. Didnt take too long.…
