Stuck at "slide to upgrade" IOS 9

Hello,

I have an ipad 3 operated on ios 7.1.

I pressed installed after Apple sent me an ios 9 upgrade notification and left it overnight. I woke up this morning and discovered that my ipad was stuck at a bright white “slide to upgrade” screen. It didn’t react when I attempted to slide over it.

I tried several times to:

- turn on/off ipad

- enter into recovery mode

- restore ipad from itunes

- restore backup from icloud

I would get the update completed screen (after slide to setup) and when I pressed continue, it would lead me to the same overly bright but blank screen with nothing but "slide to upgrade" at the bottom.

Any help/ anyone else with the same issue?

Just an update on my latest iPad state. I think it is good news!

My first of iOS 9 installation ended with the iPad unable to boot up after being powered off. I restored to iOS 9 on my iPad as previously described (first install as setting up a new iPad, then apply my saved backup). I did that on Wednesday. But, I was still noticing the occasional hanging Apple logo screen. I did not try powering off to see if I could get back. Before just going back to iOS 8.4.1, I discovered the newly-released iOS 9.0.1 which came out on Wednesday. I figured I had nothing to lose by installing it, since I could probably still revert to iOS 8.4.1 if needed. I am happy to report that all the hanging Apple logo screen problems are gone with this update, I have powered off and on just fine, I have also done a hard restart just fine. The iPad seems to be running more smoothly, too.

I then encountered nasty "Waiting..." app problems since then. I would delete and reload individual apps, but then the Apple App Store gods would act and lots of apps would go back to "Waiting..." state with no way I could find to get them out of it from my iPad. I just synced all the Apps via iTunes on my computer and they are now all out of "Waiting..." state. Hope it stays that way.

I also have now taken the advice of others here and saved my iPad backup from before I started this process in another location on my Windows computer. It was not overwritten when I upgraded to iOS9 by asking to set up a new machine. Guess I was lucky, and I would prefer to not test that again.

I too had this problem when upgrading an iPad4 on ios6. I restarted several times, re-updated it several times but to no avail. The only thing that worked was installing 8.4.1 on it (as suggested on page 1 of this thread).

The only issue I have now is that although iTunes was able to sync all my content it would not sync any apps over. In the apps section it says (on the relevant apps) "Will Install" but it doesn't, these buttons and the "Install" buttons are greyed out and so to is the "Automatically install new apps" check box. the only way to get the apps was via the App Store on the device one-by-one - although four apps are no longer on the store and I can't get them off my mac either. Other devices can install apps via iTunes but not the iPad4. I have still not actually upgraded it to ios9 at this time.

I don't know if this app issue is related to the "slide to unlock" issue or just coincidence.

UPDATE, I did this update two days ago and tried again yesterday to see if it would sync the missing apps with the iPad physically connected to the mac. I just now looked at the app section with the iPad connected via WIFI and non of it is greyed out. I'm now syncing via WIFI and it seems to be working.

Interesting... I detailed steps to fix the issue because APPLE FAILS YOU. And either a forum mod, or the poster, deleted it all.

Fancy that.

Sorry to have spoon fed directions that didn't involve sucking at the teat of of Apple and expecting them to release a new version that fixes everything and works like magic. Downloading an ipsw file or software to your phone is not illegal, fyi. Learning how to use your tech is to your betterment. Sorry some feel like holding back the community's knowledge at large.

Best of luck in repairing your device.
