Does iTunes 11.4 sync with iOS 9?

For all of us running MacOS X 10.6.8 the last version of iTunes is 11.4. Can iOS 9 still sync with iTunes 11.4? I don't need the radio or iTunes match parts, just calendar syncing and backups.

First the Good news.......after 2+ weeks of confusion I have iOS 9.0.2 and iTunes 11.4 working perfectly

Bad news:

Both Apple and Verizon techs were unable to solve the issue

I had to replace the phone as there was no way to downgrade the OS

The only major issue that i have is that Apple produced 2 versions of their OS one for over-the-air and the other when connected to a computer.

It makes absolutely no sense at all that while connected to a desktop/laptop the very update that initiated the process could indeed sever same!

What is worse is that folks on the Apple help line are not even aware of the different versions of the OS

Working approach:

If u have a phone with iOS 9 on it already back it up to another compatible machine

Take another phone running 8.4 on it and install simm card

Do the OTA update

test compatibility with your iTunes 11.4 (don't worry, it will work)

Restore from the other machine

Enjoy life

Hope this helps

My iPhone 5S with 9.0.2 cannot sync to iTunes 11.4 running on my Mac Mini (2007). My iPad mini with 9.0.1 can so it seems to be phone related and not just iOS 9.

Anyway I ended up re-syncing my iPhone to iTunes 12.3 running on my PC instead. So now I can back it up. But in the meantime iTunes on my Mac still tries to sync with the iPhone. I still get that irritating cannot connect to iTunes, get a new version message. How do I get rid of it? It's more annoying than anything and prevents total closure on this issue.

The only thing we can say is:

DEAR APPLE PLEASE REOPEN THE GAP TO DOWNGRADE TO 8.4.1 (AT LEAST FOR A LONGER TIME) FOR ALL USERS WHO STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. OR DO ANOTHER UPDATE LIKE iTUNES 11.4.x SO OUR PHONES AND TABLETS GET RECOGNIZED AGAIN.

My iPhone 5 is still on the list of supported hardware but still i cant use it no more. All contacts gone, the phone rendered useless piece of garbage now just by a click of update.

It is redicolous that some users were able to switch through the little door open just for a couple of days and the rest of us who did the iOS9.01 update 1 day after are left out in the cold...

Everthing said here about newer technologies etc. might be true. But that dont help us users who already made Apple strong in the past years by spending thousands of dollars for expensive hardware. To be cast out this way without any ind of reaction by Apple itself is wether not correct nor acceptable.

APPLE PLEASE REACT!

I SO wish I had known any of this before yesterday. I learned it when my iTunes refused to sync with my iPhone 6, after downloading an iPhone upgrade on my 10.6.8 laptop.

I really only need the syncing for personal data: contacts, calendars, (I think that's it, anything else? I barely use Notes but maybe Notes). I don't use iTunes for music; I do listen to podcasts but don't care too much about backing up or at all about syncing.

Arranged to see an Apple Genius today, who told me there was no way to downgrade the phone's OS, and I can't sync those things through iCloud because 10.6.8. But he suggested maybe I could export all my calendars and contact lists Calendar and Contacts on Google (where I do have an account), and then add the Google accounts to Calendar and Contacts on iPhone and to iCal and Address Book on laptop. He couldn't guarantee but thought this might meet my current needs. Does it sound like it will end up looking and feeling about the same? I wouldn't have to sync anything ever; and I would find another newer computer to back up the iphone.

Hi Paul-ny

well, yeah, we all wish we didnt do this bloody update iOS9.02 thru iTunes. We´re all in the same boat and it seems it´s getting more and more users who get caught in the trap that Apple has layed down for us users of older systems.

To help myself (or you and others further a bit) in the meantime until there will be a solution, i found a little workaround, which admittedly is not very comfortable one but at least makes us able to use our phones as phones and communication tools again.

Take a look at my post here to read all about it:

Hot to restore adresses on iPhones/iPads which are stuck not syncing on older 10.6.8-systems or iTunes 11.4

Lets all hope for Apple to get sensitive for the feedback of their users again. ALL users who have the same problem should definately give a feedback at their page here to make them understand that there are MANY of us. This was suggested from a person on the Apple-supportphone i was talking to.

Go here to leave YOUR comment, please (the more we are the better and the sooner Appple is gonna react):

I wish they will understand to wake up and do something about it in the next iOS-update 9.1 ... if they dont i am pretty sure they gonna loose lots of customers ... (like me) at least.

Thanks, D. AU, I have now done that-- posted a comment both under iPhone and under MacBook Pro.

My attempt to work around the calendar and contact syncing so far has been partially successful but may not be successful enough: I replicated all of my Apple calendars in Google Calendar and added the Google account to my phone, so now it looks pretty much the same as it did before (but the color codes are different & I'm not sure I can fix that)-- and it syncs instantaneously with Google Calendar in a browser. But I can't seem to add the Google account to my iCal-- it doesn't find the account, or says it can't connect with my signup information.

Then I got a message from Google saying it turned down a request to connect from a device that had deficient security protection. I am guessing that was iCal version 4.0.4. Other complications, though, arise from the fact that my login ID for Google is a non-gmail address. The automatic searching for the account went looking for servers at the other address. For now, just so much more frustration.

I got burned by this same mess. Supposedly for a short while you could turn back the clock on your iPhone, but others seem to be reporting that's no longer possible. I tried existing ipsw's (iPhone "restore point" files) on my Mac with no luck, then downloaded one that absolutely should've worked. No dice. Error message on multiple machines, including Mac and Windows.

I also wanted iCal connectivity--Contacts wasn't as much of an issue for me--and it turns out sometime back, people were battling this same problem when Apple shut down MobileMe in favor of iCloud. Snow Leopard was apparently just barely pre-iCloud, so its default iCal settings have it trying to sync to a calendar via MobileMe. Hit a browser and search something like "icloud snow leopard ical", and you'll find quite a few people who managed to make it happen through iCal's CALdav sync setup. I had to try a few variations of the posted workarounds to get mine happening, but my Snow Leopard does seem to now sync iCal with my IOS 9.0.2 iPhone (not when it's docked; it's through iCloud, of course). I'll admit to not having tested it completely.

There are a few multiple Calendar listings and color changes, so I still have some cleanup to do before finding out how precisely well it works... but maybe that'll help someone here a little.

As a poster mentioned earlier, really sad how there was code written into the IOS update that severs its connection with the very computer that fed it the update to begin with. Wow.

Well it looks like the decisions we have to make is whether to continue with Apple. Sure it is nice when all your hardware syncs seamlessly compared to android where one has to fine tune and get the different apps and hardware to sync. Still there are more options that work with android. When apple decides to eliminate compatibility of older apple hardware you are left out in the cold. So unless you buy new hardware your iphone 6s will not be an improvement over an android phone.

Guess the question will be is it worth paying a premium for a mac pro or imac so that my iphone will sync. Windows computers are far less expensive. Now that starts the transition back to windows. As a long term apple user since the early 80's (35 years) I never considered returning to microsoft. In business microsoft was the standard because of software. Now it seems that android may be the preferred choice for the same reason.

For the moment I purchased Wondershare TunesGo to manage my music on my iphone 5. I am on icloud for calendar, email and contacts. I will be upgrading my phone this coming year. Will be looking at the Android phones with more interest now. Never considered one before. Now Apple has me looking at Android. So when my MacPro is ready for an upgrade it is unlikely that a new MacPro will be an option. Maybe an imac or a windows 10 computer for 1/2 the price? It is a slippery slope that we are on right now.

Well, i was trying to wait for the solution coming up with the new iOS9.1-update - hoping that APPLE would really take the problems of its users serious.

It seems they dont, as nothing of the "no sync" problems have changed at all.

I was now doing the iOS9.1-update OTA to avoid any new conflicts wit iTunes 11.4.

But after the update still iTunes keeps telling me that i should update to the latest version. So it appears that by doing this "one dangerous update" with iTunes before all doors are locked forever!

This REALLY annoys and frustrates me as i had the slight hope that with the new update these problems would have been wiped.

But it seems that APPLE has become too arrogant to listen to its Users anymore, just looking at the dollar-sign in their eyes...

So i am done with that. I took days and weeks to restore my (actual) iPhone 5 which now no longer is supported by Apple even if it should, according to their own compatibility list. So i have no chance else but to change over to use an Android-phone now which dont appear with such incredible devastating limitations for older APPLE-machines.

Well, yes guys, thats the way it goes. After 25 years of using APPLE products for good, spending thousands of dollars on (once before) great hard- and software i am now beeing forced to leave the APPLE-system as it refuses to allow me to work with it as I WOULD LIKE TO, not as APPLE WANTS ME TO DO it. What a shame. A company who has once been the best in the world is starting to spit out its loyalest users by arrogance and ignorance... what a pity.

Sorry, see you later guys, i´m done with APPLE 😠😟

I feel the same and did send them feedback through the link provided in this message thread. I'm copying and pasting here so that others are aware.

"As you are aware, the latest ios operating update left Macbook 10.6.8 no longer compatible with any updated apple device., this includes my iphone, ipod and ipad.

This is UNACCEPTABLE. There has to be a fix, which would allow 10.6.8 to sync with my newly purchased Iphone 6+. I use this perfectly good mac for backup of pictures. Because of the incompatibility of itunes, I can't even sync pictures with iphoto.

If this issue isn't addressed, I will know that you no longer support your middle class product buyers and will never purchase another apple product. In the meantime, my brand new iphone 6plus will be returned and purchase a galaxy 5.

This is a big deal and to remain silent on the subject is disheartening.
