iPad 2 is bricked from iOS 9

I attempted to upgrade to iOS 9 today on my iPad2 and have been unable to complete the process. The first issue was getting stuck on the slide to upgrade screen, and getting no response from the slide gesture. After resetting, I was able to slide and a black Apple logo appeared with a grey/black progress bar. The bar fills up to about a third, before going back to the slide to upgrade screen. I am stuck in this loop. I have tried to reboot the device in recovery mode by holding the power and home buttons down, but the device just restarts back to the dreaded slide to upgrade screen. I have also connected to my PC and iTunes, but I get a prompt 'To allow access, please respond on your iPad', but again, all I have is the slide to upgrade screen. There must be some way to get out of this loop, as it is at least a soft brick. Does anyone have any suggestions?

SO then I got popular on iTunes saying my iPad was being reset to factory settings and to leave iPad plugged in. No feedback on iTunes or iPad Screen except black screen and logo on iPad . Then get pop up on iTunes saying I need to upgrade to iTunes 12.2.2 because iPad can't be used with current version. Just before I downloaded I get the welcome message on iPad. So I go through the set up screens on iPad selecting language etc.

i Selected set up a new iPad just as I think it's easier(still camnot see my device on iTunes)

wait......

bingo!!!!!

I factory setting iOS 9 iPad .

heart goes out to anyway in same boat.

no need to fix my dads iPad

just to be clear. I didn't update iTunes. Perhaps if I Siri could have got a restore, but chose what I thought was easiest path.

so you did just do a factory restore and lost data - so I will just bite the bullet and do that - will take a walk first.

I already have iTunes 12.3.0.44 !! heaven knows how that happened!

Then I'll click on the restore button - at least hopefully I can get the iPad working again - may not be too much of a loss to lose some games! 😉

All other stuff is in the cloud so I can re-synch that again.

Many thanks for pioneering!

ITunes will put you in endless loop of restore and update blah blah blah.................... but if you have taken backup before update then its fine but if update failed and ipad is in recovery mode and If you get error 9 or your ipad bricked stuck on recovery mode and you are not able to start ipad and iTunes is continuously failing to restore the ipad to previous state .If this is the problem then after wasting 2 days I used tenorshare reiboot and by god mercy I was at least able to get ipad back to original condition.

here is the link

I have a bricked iPad after allowing the IOS 9 update to install.

Apple Fu**ed up on this update!!! With all of their billions in the bank they can't test and fix these problems before pushing the software out.

It is looping with an Apple logo and a line, nothing more shows up.

If I connect it to Mac with iTunes, iTunes says to use the iPad to allow access but no message ever comes up on the iPad.

Pressing the Power and Home button just causes the loop to start again.

HELP!

I am going to try this: http://www.tenorshare.com/guide/how-to-use-reiboot-mac.html

Will the Apple store help fix this problem???

Based on various news article blurbs during a search for same - IOS 9 has problems with older IPADS -- same as I guess version 8.

Any and all problems you have should be given to apple through feedback as a bug - or by contacting support.

Before doing any updates of Apple products - great idea to check your internet connections and print them out -- as it has been my experience that sometimes some of the options are defaulted rather than carried forward to the new release.

Just to update, I finally managed to get my iPad 2 to work.

I connected to iTunes on MAC, then pressed POWER + HOME buttons and after the screen went blank I let go of the POWER button while continuing to hold down the HOME button. This prompted iTunes to let me choose to wipe or upgrade the software (I chose to wipe).

I did try the same POWER + HOME button combinations earlier but on a PC, not a MAC. So it looks like this workaround only works on a MAC.

This would be helpful - if it was accurate.

..

In order to "run" the Latest iTunes - you must be running win8 or Win10 - correct?

...

My PC's are all Win XP - Therefore I cannot run the latest version of iTunes.

..

Besides , the last time I put iTunes on my PC - it captured and converted all 160,000 MP3s to iTunes. It took me over $ 300.00 to get my "Lossless" Audio and MP3 Tracks back...

..

That was not a pleasant experience and I swore I would never let the iTunes Demon back into my PC with all my Music again......

...

My wife and I do not have iPhone - Just the two iPads,

..

So once again - I am stuck....

....

As a side note, this morning my wife brought her iPad in to me.... Her iPad was locked and her password did not wrk...

I finally got into it and noticed it was "automatically upgraded to IOS9". Now all her photos are basically gone (she is ****** at me???" I keep telling her that "she" bought the iPads three years ago..... Not me.....

...

I don't Like WinBlows - Much less Apple IOS.... I run Lynx and am a happy camper with it.

...

Too bad you cannot link through a Linx Comper to Itenes.

...

It would be nice if Apple had an on-line iTunes gateway to help this problem....

..

But Steve Jobs and Wozniac as well as Bill Gates determined a long time ago that everyone would have to "choose" and accept the misgivings and restrictions once they did....

..

I chose Lynx.... and there for I am out in the cold.... Unless I avoid all the restrictive issues that come with WinBlows and IOS - it is these three demons that cause most of the problems in the PC world....

...

I am still loking for a way to fix "my" iPad.... I can get it to reboot, and everything runs fine until the final screen...

..

It will not go past the final white screen.. Just adter the screen where it says "Your iPad has been updated to IOS9 - Now you need to do a few more things"

...

When I swipe it to continue - it goes blank.... Then after about 5-10 minutes shuts down completely.

...

Turning it back on starts the whole circus over again...

...

I think I will list this iPad on eBay for $10 and give up....

..

After all a PC that doesn't do anything is basically a brick....

In the meantime - I am still looking for a fix....

Totally agree.... My latest update is

I do understand how things go - I was a software beta tester..... I checked the internet - obviously not enough and gave it a go.

I did back up before I started - always have recommended this in the past to customers.

How have I got on? Disastrous - so far.

I have re-installed the backup - managed eventually to get it to do that.

I have gone into recovery mode and re-installed everything.

I have actually got to put in my passcode - TWICE - been told I have successfully upgraded everything;

enabled zoom;chosen my wifi connections

AND THEN

the "White Screen of Death" - with ">slide to upgrade" - EVRYTIME

I have got here by various routes - this last screen is just not working.

If there is no update from Apple then I will have to wipe either via iTunes or use the Tenorshare Reiboot if that fails.

Feel very upset for those who are stuck like this too - so frustrating and time consuming.

Living ever in hope!

So I now join you aethelstan 2000 - I now have a functioning iPad2 with iOS 9 - but I had to sacrifice my old data - mainly some game stuff

I could get the backup to install - but even though it looked as if I was going to win - all the prompts etc were very encouraging - it all ended in the

"swipe to update" white screen of death - so I gave up on trying to install the backup.

sigh
