Q: Can't delete apps in iOS9

When I hold down the app, the icons wiggle and I get the Xs to delete but the device freezes and I can't do anything further until I reboot.  This is on an iPadAir1 and has occurred only since I updated to iOS9 yesterday.  I'm also having the problem connecting to GameCenter that others have mentioned.  The same problems are NOT happening on my iPhone that was also updated yesterday.

iPad Air, iOS 9

I actually have the same problem. But you can get around it in the mean time by deleting the app though the settings. You go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage , then just click on the app you want to get rid of and press delete app.

Thanks so much, I am having the same problem! But on my iPhone actually.

I do hope that for the future, Apple becomes aware and fixes the problem so that we can continue to delete apps the more "simple" way.

Having the same issue, though the workaround works. It's a bug I can reproduce (i.e. it's not something that only sometimes happens). Every time I hold down an app until it jiggles, if I press the x to uninstall the app, the whole device becomes unresponsive: can't click out of the area, the main button won't exit shake-mode, the power button won't work even if I hold it down, double-tapping the main button does nothing. The only way to get out of it seems to be to hold both the main button and power together for 10 seconds. But even after that, I still can't remove an app this way.

Update: All apps were affected, but after my 3rd full reboot I was able to remove an app this way. I'm not sure why/what changed.

Hope this helps.  Because of the new 3D touch and quick actions in iOS9 and iPhone 6s and Plus things are a little different now.

Use THREE fingers instead of TWO.  All your Apps will start dancing just like before iOS 9.

    Good luck.

I have  an iPad Air 2 and since I installed ios9 when I try to delete and app by holding down and clicking the x my iPad freezes for up to 5 minutes and then reboots.  I can do nothing once I touch the x.    I have taken the 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 updates! but no change.  I can deleted from settings usage area.   This happens with new apps I just download and older apps that were already on the iPad.

I have a similar problem - but running iOS 9.1 beta-3; and when I hold down any app on the iPhone 6S, I get three taps back, but no little "X's" show... any ideas why I can't erase apps?

Maybe because you're running IOS 9.1 beta. We can't answer IOS 9.1 questions until the general release.

    Try Zabumo's answer above.

i gave up waiting for response and did a full reset and iCloud restore.   It fixed the issue.

1 Backup to iTunes and iCloud

2 general settings -> reset, to reset and erase all content

3 start setup and restore from icloud

all ll working about an hour later.

I take it back.  I just tried to delete and app and locked up again then restarted.  This is after doing a full reset and iCloud restore.

Not sure if this will work for others. But this was happening to me as well. My fix was to enable Siri. I had turned Siri off at one point recently and that's when the issue cropped up. Turning it back on solved the issue for me.

Go to settings> general> restrictions> make sure there are no restrictions turned on.
