ios 9 contacts not appearing in spotlight search

Hello,

I search for contacts that I know are on the phone and are located in the contacts app, but Spotlight Search does not return any contacts. It does return mentions of people in messages, email, calendar, etc. I have checked that "Contacts" is "on" in Siri Suggestions, but no help.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Unless apple fixes this bug with an update its not going to be corrected. I dont think there is ever a solution to this from our side. I did all the things said before in this thread. But nothing works permanently. the problem reappears again and again. Apple i hope is losing focus on the main things, that is smoothening the performance and bug free iOS. Rather they are more focussed on bringing unnecessary features and scraping out useful ones like the quick contacts in app switcher screen. 😠

Well, all I can say is give iOS 9.1 beta a try! I've been using it for the past two weeks or so and so far, my contacts are still there in Spotlight Search. I think they fixed this misbehaviour. Moreover, the performance of 9.1 beta is WAY smoother than in 9.0.x, and it's completely stable. Plus you can switch back and leave the Beta at any time!

...just visit http://beta.apple.com and register your iPhone there, it's self-explanatory and really easy, done in a matter of minutes! You will then receive iOS beta versions over the air, just like any other iOS update. And you can leave the beta program at any time and return to the iOS release versions if you prefer that!

Best,

It can be done with your Windows laptop using iTunes (always use latest version). iTunes is needed to create a backup of your old iOS 9.0.x data in case you would like to quit the Beta program and return to 9.0.x later. iCloud backups won't work here, that's why you need iTunes and a PC or Mac.

Just check the URL I quoted in my last posting - it's all explained there, and as I said, it's a very simple process!

This worked for me. Spotlight was finding some contacts but not others. I had put a new contact into my iMac address book and thought it wasn't synced. I went through most of the suggestions above and eventually able to find it by scrolling though the contacts and eventually searching using the contacts search worked. It wasn't until I did a hard reset as described here that spotlight could find it.

I also had this problem, and it involved not only Spotlight Search but searching within Contacts, too. I tried many of the suggestions here, and if they worked, they were temporary.

Finally, I think I have it figured out. It seems that even though I do not use iCloud for contacts, contacts within iCloud must be switched on in order for the searches to find my Outlook contacts. Said another way, I cannot have only Outlook contacts turned on, I must have iCloud contacts and thus multiple contact groups turned on even if I have no contacts in the other (iCloud in my case) group.

This is a bug. I have iOS 9.1 already so I'm not optimistic that it is entirely worked out for all configurations as those who have had luck with the beta version have hoped. Maybe next round...
