Unable to connect to iTunes purchases.

Since the last iTunes update (12.3.0.44) I keep getting the following without doing anything in iTunes; I just have it open:

Unable to connect to iTunes purchases.

A communication error has occurred. iTunes will try to connect again soon.

Just talked to Apple by phone and eMail. They took serious time to look in to this problem with screen sharing, and discovered strange settings that probably were caused during the last update. They promised me to contact the responsible technician. My patience and co-operation probably did help. At this moment as I write problem is solved. No error messages any more. So look in to your iTunes and share your experience. Apple Thank You Very Much!!

Problem solved!!!

Had the same problem described in this discussion. I first attempted to log in and out of iTunes on the two macs that demonstrated the error message. This did not work; however, others reported that it worked for them. Tried a few other problem shooting steps. Nothing worked.

Contacted Apple - first via e-mail, but the person who does e-mail troubleshooting didn't know how to resolve the issue. As a result they e-mailed me a number to call. I called the number and the initial answer was from an automated system that seemed to be part of Apple Care (the automated system was actually pretty good; I usually hate automated systems). I eventually reached a technician who listened to the issue well, asked a few questions and then connected me to a "super technician" named Jimmy. Jimmy solved the problem.

Signing in and out seems to resolve the issue for most people. However, I didn't sign in and out properly. Although I singed in and out of iTunes on the Macs that demonstrated the issue my other devices connected to iTunes were still on and connected. As a result, iTunes never really registered me as signing in and out of my account "completely." One must turn off all computers and iOS devices, etc... that are associated with iTunes account EXCEPT for one. I have 3 computers and 2 iOs devices connected/enabled/associated with the iTunes account in question. I left my iPhone on (since I was talking to Jimmy) and turned off the other 4 machines. Once all 4 machines were completely turned off the only device/machine connected to my iTunes account was my iPhone. I then logged out and then back in to my iTunes account on my iPhone. After doing so I turned the other 4 machines back on. Presto no more error message - communication problem solved.

If you have multiple devices connected to the account in question, then I don't think it matters which device you leave on. I believe the key is to shut all of them off except for one. Then use that one device that remains on to sign out and back in of iTunes. Apparently when you have multiple devices using the same account and if more than one remains turned on then you truly never sign out of iTunes.

Hope that helps and solves this issue for all, if not for most.
