How to create templates with graphics

I am trying to create a simple page with a header and a footer. I would like all my new pages to follow this format, but I cannot get it to work.

The header and footer both include text. Then there is a JPG file attached to the header, a horizontal line and a gray box behind this all.

I can save this template, and every new document's first page shows all the contents correctly. But when I create a new page within that document, the graphics parts (JPG file, line, gray background) of the template are missing. The text (in the header and in the footer) still shows up just fine, but no graphics.

I tried locking the graphics elements, but that made no difference. They still don't show up on a new page.

Also, Apple included some multi-page tempaltes with Pages. I tried to copy one of them and edit it to create multi-page templates, but Pages only opens the first page of that template and nothing more. How can you create multi-page templates?

Thanks!

Hello Andras,

the trick is, to move all the objects (text, graphics, images) into the "Master Page" you want to have on every page. This is like a template for a page. Select the objects you want to appear on every page and use the menu item "Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master". If you want to correct some objects after that, use the menu item "Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable" and you can select them (shown with blue filled handles).

If you want to have multi-page templates, you have to create a multi-page section. To achieve that, fill so much text into the first page that Pages creates a second page. Now layout the second page like you need/want it. After that you can can delete all the text or mark it as a placeholder text with the menu item "Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder Text". Now every time you create a new document with your template, there are two pages with the placeholder text selected. Just type your info and the placeholder text will be exchanged with your real text and the second page disapears until your info overfills the first page and Pages creats the second one.
