iOS 9 - iCloud backups are GONE after update...help!

Same issue here, upgraded to iOS 9 and that night my backup failed for the first time ever. I get the "not enough space error" and the only backup I can see is only 0 kb. But there's good news and bads news. The bad news is there are a few work arounds like deleting the backup and trying to run it again but Apple has now merged old iCloud device Backups so deleting one could potentially delete them all. The good news is that Apple is aware of this issue and why its occurring (they tried to implement this new App slicing feature which allows your device to download only the necessary files specfic to your phone. This will cut down on app data being stored on your phone since you dont have to download the all the associated universal app files which make that app compatible with every iOS Apple device. When they tried to implement it, it obviously failed and caused this massive backup issue. Apple is aware of it (I've talked with a few senior icloud tech supet agents) so I'm hoping the patch will be released soon (in a few weeks) and it will fix all these iCloud issues. I've decided to just wait it out instead of deleting my old backups but I would recommend doing an iTunes physical backup so at least you have something in the the meantime. About two weeks ago I've open a ticket with Apple and today they finally acknowledge there is an issue with the iCloud backups for iPhones - they said iPads are working, although I've seen mixed success/failure stories after iOS 9 landed. As of now, no ETA was provided and I got another follow up call set for next week. Will see how long it will take until a fix is pushed.

As a side note, this happens to any iOS 9 - tested on iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1, iOS 9.0.2 and iOS9.1 Beta 1 to Beta 4.

This issue is Souring the Apple. They better find the fix.

I have an Iphone 5 with 34GB Used and 22GB available on it and 183GB available on iCloud and I cant back it up to iCloud either. Keeps saying I dont have enough icloud storage space available. Last time phone was backed up to icloud was 9/16/15.

I have an Ipod and Ipad that back up to iCloud without any problem.

Im getting pretty sick of all the continual OS upgrades that are ment to correct issues and only create new ones. Seems 9.1 created this one.

HOWEVER - iCloud doesn't fail on hitting my credit card for the $2.99 per month for the storage even thought my iphone seems has lost ability to make use of that storage. Apple Techies need to start fixing the things that are broke and stop fixing the things that aren't. Leave well enough alone.

Maybe we are all barking up the wrong tree. Maybe we should be visiting our State Attorney Generals or the Feds. Bet that would

get some attention.

iCloud backups are actually working on iOS 9. There is, however, a catch to make it work: If you have a backup created by any iOS 8, you first need to delete it. After that, both a manually started one, or the automatically set ones would work just fine.

Worth give it a try, since there can't get any worse: if you lose your phone now, you don't have an iCloud backup available to restore your phone from, so there is no much to lose.

Just updated to ios 9.1 and the same thing as everyone else - I can't backup to icloud and currently no previous backups exist on iCloud - Alex H suggests to delete the ios 8.x backups first - a fine idea, but on the iPad, iPhone, through a browser looking at iCloud and on a Macbook looking at icloud through the system preferences, NOTHING is seeing any of the previous ios 8.x backups I had done. So I backed the iPhone and iPad (which I foolishly upgraded at the exact same time) to my computer via iTunes so I will have SOMETHING at least if I have to go back to factory settings. Any new info ?

Still the same for me. Two months later, and I still can't back up my phone to iCloud. Numerous calls to Apple support and hours on the phone, and no one has an answer/fix. Sign in/out of iCloud, delete old backups (WHICH I CAN'T DO), change phone name, update software, etc. Nothing works.

I think someone intimated this on this thread, but the backups are still there (even though all devices and methods of connection are telling us they are not). I just upgraded to an iPad Air2 and in the setup process it asked me if I wanted to restore from the backup done a day before I upgraded to ios 9.1. I selected it and voila, my new iPad Air2 is set up just like my old iPad. So I imagine the way to get my phone to restore from a backup I _think_ is there, is to reset the phone to factory settings and restore from backup. Scary. I'll try it in the next week and report back.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried everything short of restoring my iPhone 6. If Apple is listening/watching - FIX THIS!

9.2 still doesn't fix this.

Oh, do not trust the iCloud! I have had the same thing happen when I first got my iPad. Something went terribly wrong with the backup to the iCloud and I lost 6months worth of photos, which happened to be one quarter of my toddler's life! I was horrified, since I didn't even realized this happened for a few weeks. Called Apple, got a lot of apologies and they had their engineers look into it, but alas, to no avail. I couldn't believe that Apple had failed so horribly. But, there was a silver lining--I had started using Google cloud backup for my photos a year before that and it turned out all those photos that were lost by iCloud, had been stored by Google! I've used the Apple brand for 20 years, but over the last couple of years, it's no longer what it used to be and I have spent countless hours with their support team, often getting incorrect advice that just led to more problems. The idea of seamless synching is a joke (I have 2 macs, ipad and iphone and nothing is ever the same on all of them) and the constant platform changes and updates just lead to more dysfunction and confusion--especially when it comes to the Cloud. The only advice: when it come to backing up to the Cloud--do not trust Apple. I do hope someday they figure it out, I miss the simplicity and ease of use of the good old days.
