iOS 9 made a mess of my Camera Roll

So I installed the iOS 9 gm last week and it all went perfectly for my iPhone 6. However, last night i got a notification telling to update my software to iOS 9 and so i updated.

Woke up today, took some photos today and when i went to view my images, hundreds of photos were out of order in the Camera Roll. Scrolling upwards was todays photos I took but then it goes to photos i took september 2014 and select photos up until the very start of my camera roll, before going back to yesterdays photos. Every photo is in the correct order in the Photos tab but in the camera roll its messed up.

Has anyone had their camera roll messed up from this update? it doesn't look like i have a backup from before the second update so I dont know if I can restore.

Let me tell you, even 2 years after you had this post. I have trouble with the same issue where I backed up my old device and restore it on the new iPhone, photos were no longer in order, I called Applecare yesterday and have been held on the phone for a whole hour and nothing was sorted out. And, they said they had not encountered with this problem before. Very disappointed at these people when they are charging over $1000 on a cell phone these days.

This just happened to me. I had to replace my iPhone, which was not yet updated to iOS 9. I updated the new phone to iOS 9.1, and then loaded a backup onto the phone. Once the backup got done loading all of the photos in my camera roll are out of order. They are in order in my "collections" and photo stream, just not in the camera roll. I tried reloading iOS 9.1 and reloading the backup, and the problem persisted. Literally on hold with Apple Care now, they do not seem to be aware of this issue with iOS 9/9.1.

I've already raised a case with them giving details on the order of my photos which run from

20th june 2012 - 24 sept 2015 and then from 31 jan 2013 - 16th sept 2014. No Duplicates.

All the photos taken on the 6s are in order.

They asked me to try restoring from my pre ios9 backup, that didnt work.

Tried an icloud backup and that put all my photos in order in reverse(oldest pic is at bottom of camera roll) and none of my text messages were restored and that was no good to me. During the restore it also asked for 2 apple ID passwords I've never seen or used before?

Tried every variation of backups that I have but nothing works so will contact apple again with my case number.

Off topic but does touch ID no longer work for family sharing approvals? Having to type password each time is driving me nuts.

Same for me. Logged a case online and visited the store and although they tried to help, still the same. Everything is in the correct chronological order EXCEPT Camera Roll. Tried restoring to 5 different backups but no difference. New photos taken go to the correct place at the bottom but the photos before that are from 3 years ago with the previous newest pics at the top. It's really annoying!

I am experiencing this issue as well!

I updated to 9.1 yesterday and all seemed fine until today when I was searching for an older photo. I know my photo order really well (I use iCloud to streamline all my device photos...) and it's just completely out of sorts in the Camera Roll. It's perfectly fine in the Collections tab but I primarily use the Camera Roll album to access photos and it's incredibly frustrating to find things now!

F#*king updates. I just woke up this morning and went to look for photos I need for work, mand found the SAME EXACT issueas most of you. My camera roll is in shambles. MOST recent photos are in the middle towards the top instead of being chronologically ordered with most recent photos at the bottom when the app opens. my bottom photos that us d to be most recent are from September 2014 which one of you have stated as well. My Shared and Photos tabs under pictures are normal as well. Have here been any solutions found..
