HOW TO DO IT?: UDF video format convert to a format for FCPX in full resolution?

I have a DVD with a video on it. The format is UDF. I need to bring the video (with full resolution HD) into my iMac for editing in FCPX.

When I drag and drop this file onto the iMac I then dropped it into Audacity it is converted to a file size of 480 instead of HD which it was filmed in.

Yosemite OSX 10.105

Audacity 2.0.6

If this is a video DVD (as in the ones you would insert into the living room dvd player of yore) then the video in it is NOT HD. A DVD has 480 lines so it seems what are getting is correct, unless what you have is a data DVD on which you happened to record some video file (which might be HD).

Audacity is an audio program. How are you using it to open video files?

It is a church, filming the Sunday service.

The camera is hard wired to a dvd burner.

LOcation is meaningless. So is the day of the week. The DVD recorder can only handle standard def and creates mpeg2 files in a VOB wrapper When the disk is finalized. If your operator did not properly close the DVD it is possible you will not be able to access the files. Depends on the recorder's software. after you unpack the files using MPEGStreamclip You can edit them into a SD project but you will be disappointed if you attempt to,scale the clips up to 1080.

THe engineering of your recording setup could be dramatically improved with some expense and an experienced AV wonk.

I agree they need an improved setup. Due to lack of funds we have to work with what we have available, Canon camcorder that is 8 yrs old.

My experience is FCP & motion graphics and standing behind TV cameras. Never handled camcorders and DVDs. We will get an AV wonk from the studio, once we get a good camera.

Thanks to everyone here for your help, I learned some about the trials and tribs of camcorders and DVD editing.
