Hi all, I'm on iOS 9.1 with iPhone 6 and El Capitan 10.11.1: each device can't see the other to send file on AirDrop.

Bluetooth is ok with audio, headphones and speaker on both devices.

Any new about this defect?

i updated both my iPhone and macbook to ios9 and al capitan but airdrop is still unusable .

Same problem in that Airdrop from iOS to Mac never works, although I can get the iOS device to appear in the finder's Airdrop window by clicking Airplay in iOS Control Centre. Once Airplay is selected, the iOS device remains visible for 30 secs, and files can be dropped onto the device icon and sent as normal.

iOS to iOS is always OK.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) 10.10.5

iPhone 6 iOS 9.0.2

What can we learn from this regarding the location/cause of the iOS<->OSX AirDrop problem? It cant be hardware, right, since it can be made to work through this shortcut & iOS<->iOS works too? So, it must be software/software-related? And, what is Apple doing about it?

I beginning to wonder if there is a problem in my router config.
I normally use a provider-supplied Thomson TG582n, but swapped it for an old Netgear DG834PN and now magically Airdrop works as expected.

No port blocks in place. Will need to look a bit further into this.

Ah, no that was a false alarm. Router swap didn't make any consistent difference. Sorry

I thought AirDrop was Bluetooth-based? - and therefore one should not expect a router swap to make any difference? Meanwhile, waiting for Apple to get down from their high horse, admit they have created a problem ... and, wonder of wonders, fix it ... I am grateful for your AirPlay workaround!

I think it uses BT to establish the secure connection, then uses wireless to transfer data.

Hrmmmm - I believe that when I have used iOS<->iOS AirDrop it was out of range of any wi-fi ...? I'll try to look it up. Cheers

APPLE are just doing not a thing , they could put message saying we are sorting problem ,waste time calling apple care , my i pad is still on ios 8 version that works fine with mac , so it has to be ios 9 , i left windows for useless versions do you think if we all put 1 , notice to them they may listen , over month ive tried now fed up
