spotlight search iOS 9 contacts not showing in results

I upgrade to iOS 9 this week excited about the new search feature. The only thing I used spotlight for on iOS 8 was quickly pulling up a specific contact. It seems Apple has created a iOS that returns everything except the obvious result I'm looking for and when I search for a name everything under the sun returns except the contact card I am looking for. I feel like it should be called "unnecessarily complicated and unintuitive search." Is anyone else experiences this? Does anyone have a fix?

IOS 9.0.2 has also not solved the contact search in spotlight problem. Worked fine after the update for an hour. It's back to square one.

However it's not affecting all phones. My 6+ space grey 128GB and iphone 5 32GB White does not have this problem.

MY 64GB space grey iphone 6 (MG4F2HN/A) is affected.

Can folks here confirm which phones they have which are affected.

Also, has anyone tried a hard reset and reconfiguring google sync contacts and re downloading apps after invoking restore option in desktop iTunes.

Maybe a earlier backup of iphone is preventing the issue from getting resolved.

I just submitted problem to Apple Developer BUG REPORTING.

Hopefully is correct channel to get message to them.

>PROBLEM POSTED:

Problem began with iOS 9.0 (and persists with iOS 9.0.1 as well as 9.0.2). There seems to be an indexing issue where SPOTLIGHT Search is not displaying many contacts that are in contact list. This thread of users has been complaining about issue here:

Running iOS 9.0.2 on iphone 6 Plus with the problem. Have many years worth of contacts and in my phone, and SPOTLIGHT SEARCH no longer finds them. Everything is enabled in Settings, have tried disable/re-enable, hard and soft reset....problem persists.

PLEASE HELP TO RESOLVE.

I have had the same problem since 9.0 and continuing through 9.0.1 and 9.0.2. It is a major inconvenience. I solved it (so far) by: (1) doing an iTunes sync with the phone and in the Info tab on the phone page in iTunes, selecting Replace information (contacts) on the next sync—note that I sync contacts through iTunes USB, not through iCloud; (2) doing a soft reset of the phone after the iTunes sync. That fixed it (as an extra step I fiddled with Groups in the Contacts app on the phone, but am not sure that did anything). Will see if the overall fix holds. I also noticed that before my fix, the Contacts app in the phone was not showing the total number of contacts when I pressed the # symbol to the right of the contacts list; after my fix it now shows the total number of contacts.

9.0.2 is NOT a fix. Just like every other "fix" it works for a period of time and then fails. It seems like doing anything to "goose" the indexing method helps for a short time. After it failed after the upgrade I did the "hide groups/show groups" thing and that worked for 12 hours.

I did email my contact in customer support with this thread and asked them to escalate. Meanwhile make noise in social communities to raise visibility so apple will fix it or at least acknowledge that they are working on a fix so we can stop collectively banging our heads against a wall.

My problem is that I swipe over to pull up spotlight search and type in a first name, Shawn. Three Shawns pull up as "Top Hits" (even though I haven't called or texted those in years) and then right under that in a section called "Contacts" one of the three Top Hit Shawns pulls up. No more. The Shawn I talk to on a weekly basis doesn't come up by first or last name search.

Anyone have a solution or suggestion?

Thanks,

D

PS. For pure functionality, I really, really miss my blackberry curve from years ago. Too bad they couldn't keep up.
